ranting of a labour type nature

So I wake up around midnight with very bad aching in my hips. Turns into pains that come and go. Turns into pains spreading across my back that fade in and out. Around 3.30 am I get up, potter around, burn toast, make more toast, play on internet. Pains around very 15-20 min but still short. Around 6am go back to bed figuring I may aswell try to sleep a bit or relax at least. Pains seem to start lasting longer. feel quite pleased really!

Next thing I know I'm waking up in bed, it is 8.30 and I feel....nothing!

So estimate that is around 7 hours of pains building up to sod all or am I just deluding myself that it was anything at all?

Someone please tell this baby that waiting around for the doctors to induce mummy is not going to make for a nice birth for either of us!

Got until Thursday thankfully, bless my MW hospital wanted me tomorrow.

Not had a twinge all morning though and days keep slipping by!

all those contractions and pains and twinges are doing something......moving the baby down, softening the cervix....don;t be disheartened! good that you had a sleep...you need your energy for labour....

you do not have to be induced,

you can refuse induction and ask for monitoring of you and baby....or just have a sweep and see if that sets you off...

think positive, visualise a spontaneous labour...ask the baby to come out!

Had a sweep at T+7, think they do one when they get you in for induction but that won't help my homebirth!

I know you can refuse induction but up to what point? Obviously it varies but I'm just wondering where you would draw the line?

I know it will come when it is good and ready I'm just having horrible thoughts of drips and drugs and the 21% c-section rate.....

You don't have to be induced if you don't want to, whatever the hospital's 'policy' is. It might be a bit of a pain but you can usually go to hospital for daily monitoring and if the baby is fine and you are fine there is no need for you to be induced. You could ask for another sweep and you could always try some of the 'natural' methods of inducing labour, IYKWIM.

All contractions are contractions, and all of them are doing something. It's a sign that your body is getting ready for labour.

Indith · 08/01/2007 19:58

Tis true I suppose

Ah well, been getting more achey as the evening goes on so fingers crossed for another disturbed night then!

Agree with lulumama, I was 10 days overdue and three-for days before being induced had the same pains across hips, lower back and felt really sore and that if I moved funny the baby was going to fall out it felt that far down.
Its doing what its supposed to, so while you can rest and have time to potter about, gods knows you dont have long!! Please dont be put off by statistics as you'll only heap undue worry at an already stressful time.
I went for a sweep on the sunday as I was due to be induced on the wednesday, and the MW happily told me 90% of women who had a successful sweep went into labour on their own within 24 hours. Utter shite! I was still going three days later. Tried all the sex, curry and pineapple, raspberry leaf tea BLAH BLAH BLAH and finally realised the baby will come out in its own sweet time and not a bloody second before, the cantakerous little freeloader!
Every labour, every baby is different so shut your ears to the figures and concentrate on you and I wish you a safe, and speedy delivery!
