Rhesus Negative and Home Birth?

Klambert30 · 08/01/2007 09:40

My blood tests have just come back saying I'm Rhesus Negative.I was told I'd have to have an Anti D injection at 28 weeks and I think she said again when babys born. Will this stop me having a home birth or can the injection be done at home?

I had Anti-D injections at 28 and 34 weeks. When the baby arrives, they take some cord blood to find out his blood group so they can see whether a further injection is necessary. If they have to take that away and test it, it suggests to me that you have a bit of time and so no reason you couldn't have a homebirth.

If you are super lucky like me, your baby will be rh- too, and you won;t need an injection after the birth

Klambert30 · 08/01/2007 10:15

Not sure I really want to know, but where do you have to have the injection?

I had mine in arm. I had both my DD's in a birthing unit DD1 was born on a sunday so had to go back on the monday for injection, with DD2 i was given it straight away.

Klambert30 · 08/01/2007 11:01

Oh,thats not too bad then,I can handle the arm.Its also good that you don't seem to have to have it immediately.Def one worry ticked off, thanks.

I had mine in my bottom, which my 2.9 DD thought was VERY funny!!
Midwife gave it to me a few days after home-birth on one of her regular visits.
Good luck in getting your homebirth

I'm Rh Neg and had successful homebirth earlier this year, only pain in the bum (thigh actually ) was that apparently it goes against 'protocol' round here to give the injection at home, so had to waddle round to the clinic 2 days after giving birth... doh!
