if my baby came out with his face outwards, was he OP?

.. my 12 week old DS came out with his face facing the same way as me. if you see what I mean. I was lying on my left side, and he came out with his face to the left (so if I had been on my back, he would have been born looking up). I had a really really long labour (3 days of contractions), was this why? There's nothing about it on my notes. Is this likely to happen next time, does anyone know. apparently you can tell he was op from the shape of his head, my MIL says...???

face to pubes you mean....yes , then

around 1 in 10 babies are OP...it can make for ( as you know ) a longer more drawn out labour, with more pain in your back, especially if you lie on your back..the reason is that the baby's head is not exerting equal pressure on the cervix, so dilation is slower.....

it reaally makes no odds, as you were able to give birth to him vaginally !

thanks lulumama.. I spent loads of time doing optimum foetal whatsits, but think he turned during labour... I suppose I'm looking for a reason why it took so bloody long! Thank the lord I didn't tear though, and wasn't put off for the next baby...

that is the reason he took so long! glad it hasn't put you off ! i had an OP labour, she turned, but had 15 hour of contractions before i started dilating....not as bad as 3 days, granted! even if LO is OP next time, you know you can do it....

DS1 was OP (and 10b 1oz!) but neither DS2 or DD were.

I prefer the term "stargazer" to "face to pubes" although it does assume you gave birth on your back...

stargazer is so much prettier isn't it
