What did you pack in your hospital bag that you didn't end up needing?

I always pack too much when I go anywhere, I've been known to take a small suitcase for 1 night away Blush, and as of now my list for my hospital bag is ridiculously long. Will be packing my bag within the next week or so and want to avoid carrying too much.
I always see threads about what you DO need, so, what did you pack that you didn't need?

I think it's better to pack too much than not enough. I ended up staying for 3 weeks!

Everything. I was very organised and packed anything but the kitchen sink 8 weeks in advance, yes I'm a bit OCD but then He came 5 weeks early and DH did panic buying of " tiny baby" stuff at Mothercare. I cried when I saw how small it all was. I think I'm trying to say don't worry as anything you need you will most likely be able to get ( did I Say how utterly amazing that the NHS nurses, midwives, consultants and midwife assistants are .. Utterly in awe.

I can't remember what I didn't use. But my own pillow was brilliant. And take hand cream.

Oh. What sunsetginger said, I insisted that we should bring snacks for the inevitable 24 hr+ (5 hr) labour < because my shite pregnancy book said> and screamed at him for eating disgusting salt and vinegar crisps while I was 9cm+ .. I love salt and vinegar normally. The smell made me gag every time I had a contraction... Lolz

I had two bags well three actually!
One for babys stuff, one for my stuff I'd need immediately and then a larger suitcase in the car!
Worked a treat as I ended up needing a general anaesthetic for an emergency section and so my husband could get babys things out without needing to search for it whilst I was still under.
The smaller of my bags lived in the car from about 28 weeks. When I was thirty weeks I was unexpectedly admitted after a check I had gone in for and it was s godsend that I already had a bag with essentials in.
Didn't use my lip balm but some mums swear by it.
Xx

I used everything I packed and more, but I did spend 10 days on a hotter than hell postnatal ward. I wish I had left a second bag of things for DH to bring me as I needed them, because he kept bringing me hoodies which were unbearable to wear.

Brightside65 · 28/02/2016 08:29

This is really useful!

I never thoughts about snacks - what did you bring?

Runningupthathill82 · 28/02/2016 09:21

In the end up, I couldn't eat anything during labour, but drank LOADS of Lucozade Sport both times. I was low on energy, and has and air makes your mouth really dry.
I did, however, really appreciate a big bar of quality dark chocolate afterwards. DH scoffed all the cereal bars we'd packed.

I took snacks which I didn't eat in labour as I felt sick but I was starving afterwards and hospital meal was edible but small so glad I had them first time and second time I missed a meal because of time I was transfered between wards so they were a life saver.

My milk didn't ckme in till day 3 but I ruined my nursit bras and p.js with lansinoh stains the first time as I didn't take breast pads.

Also I took a book and magazines first time they were a life saver as I was induced at night and dH sent home but I couldn't sleep as contractions had started so they gave me something to do between contractions, second time I found magazines great as I stayed overnight to establish breastfeeding and I struggled to sleep as my body clock was messed up from being up all night in labour so was good to be able to read them while I was resting.

I did take too many vests and babygros second time but first time dd pooed/sicked loads so I did need them. I think labour and babies are so unpredictable pack everything you can think of and if it's too much then you'll just take it home again!

Slippers. I was told bring slippers.

Never came out of bag.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 28/02/2016 10:33

I wished I had taken slippers! Got told off for walking around the ward in socks and my outdoor shoes looked mental with my nightie on trips to the bathroom.
