Birth Photography

I really want to start doing this. Is it something that anyone has considered doing or having done during their births? I'd love to chat to some people who have thought about it and considered having someone present at the birth.

Thank you :-)

Nahhh.

There's some of me and DD a few hours after she was born that DH took, and they're lovely, but considering I spent most of my labour naked I definitely wouldn't have wanted a photographer there!

No way. I hated noise so faffing about with a camera would have caused me physical pain. Plus my baby being made to breathe, I'm pretty glad I don't have photos of a tube being forced down her throat, I'll never forget but I can at least try to blur the memories.

We asked the midwife for some photos after DD was born- right after, so I was still in the pool, her chord hadn't been cut etc. They're not to show around, obviously, just to remember such a special moment.

I'd got my breath back and was smiling but I look horrendous enough as it is, I don't think I'd want photos of me mid-push! I am really glad I have the photos we do but I'd never pay someone to hang around with a camera snapping away at me with a contorted face, double chin and naked from bikini top down.

I would have liked it if DS had been a straightforward birth - as long as I was just blurry in the background and no pics of me and my double chins Grin it would have been nice to have some pics of me with him immediately after he was born.

Yes. Go for it. Here is a link to a website (First Light Birth Photography) of someone who takes very beautiful pics of an incredibly special moment. If it's done tastefully it can really capture the scene beautifully, and more people are wanting to have it done. Try this link:

Jesus no! Why would I want some random punter there with a camera??!!

No, no, no.

I seriously considered it with my last birth but felt too uncomfortable with another stranger in the room in thee end. I have a few snaps right after the birth which are nice but I look atrocious. If I could look like the women in birth photos I've seen, I would have been more likely to do it!

I think the market for this would be heavily skewed towards homebirths.

Many hospitals wouldn't let you. It's birth partners only and they're normally limited to two. Most women bring their DP and their mum/sister/friend.

How about newborn photography? A friend of mine has her own business doing this and is making loads of money.
