Anyone have a long wait between waters breaking and labour starting?

First pregnancy and my waters went 2 1/2 days ago at 38+6; I've been into the hospital 3 times for check-ups but no sign of labour starting. Anyone else had a long wait between waters going and labour? The hospital will let me go 96 hours before inducing if everything else stays OK, but I am getting truly impatient after 2 1/2 days of walking around leaking like a sieve. No-one told me the waters don't just go and that's it; they keep going and going and going...

My waters broke/leaked. (down as SPROM) at about 20+ weeks found out at 28week scan as babs was 8 weeks small told waters had been gone atleast 7weeks then. Never laboured stayed in hospital to be monitered. Had babs at 36weeks via c-section as labour was not allowed due tot he pressure on dd skull with having no waters. SO all in all I went 15 weeks.

HTH..

Ooh, interesting about the back to back thing. my waters broke 24 hrs later I was only getting very weak contractions (couldn't feel them, mw picked them up on the monitor thingie) my baby's heart rate was v high so I had emc/s there and then, she was back to back and hadn't engaged at all.

Hi everyone, back home with baby girl; here's how it went down: Went in at lunchtime on Monday and the babe was still OK according to the FHM. The registrar was getting very antsy as I was past 120 hours at that point, but all credit to him, he said it was my decision and checked with the consultant, who was happy to let me wait another day if everything looked OK. They left me alone for a (slightly tearful) discussion with DH, after which I decided to let them induce, as I'd been fretting all the night before, thinking she wasn't moving and so on. The exam showed I was 3 cm dilated, so those 3 nights of phantom contractions must have been doing something. Started on the drip at around 3pm; had quite weak contractions so got by on gas and air until the pushing contractions started about 6 hours later. At that point I decided I was ready for some stronger pain relief and was horrified to be told I'd left it too late for morphine or an epidural. I pushed for about 2 hours in various positions but the babe was facing sideways which I think is why I didn't make much progress. I was getting pretty hysterical at this point and losing the energy to push so I pleaded for a ventouse. The midwife was a bit reluctant, but she fetched the doctor, who started by reachin up and turning the baby around to face the right way, which was STAGGERINGLY painful. My DH said afterwards that he thought my eyes were going to pop out of my head at that point. However the girl got sucked out pretty quickly and easily with a couple more pushes (I was dismayed to be told I still had to keep pushing; I'd thought the whole point of the ventouse was that I wouldn't have to do any more of the work); I think she must have been fairly near the door by then. 8 lb 1 oz and screaming lustily, and gorgeous of course. I had to have a few internal stitches (don't quite understand exactly where these are and not keen to explore) but no episiotomy. We got home on Thursday and are now encountering a bit of a hurdle with the breastfeeding, but really I'm delighted and think the whole ordeal went pretty well. Thank you, thank you, thank you all so much for your support and advice; it really helped me not to cave in to the induction at 48 hours and although I had to do it in the end I think the labour was a lot easier than it would have been if I'd done it earlier. Have great holidays all!
