Balloon induction?

I wonder if anyone has any experience of this form of induction? Having been in slow early labour for over a week with my third child, I am being taken In today at 12pm at 40 +12. I've had 2 sweeps this week and been told I'm 2-3cm dilated but can be stretched "as far as they like" as my cervix is so soft and open. I have lost my plug too. I haven't slept In weeks as so uncomfortable, I'm having really painful bh to the point I'm sick and I'm exhausted. I just want my baby out now!
On the phone to labour ward they said most likely they would try the balloon method and send me home for 24 hours before bringing me back in. I sort of feel this is stalling the inevitable drip and as much as I like the thought of it being not so medicalised, it also doesn't really sound like I need it? The only things I have found on line are people who have had a previous cs or cervix not ripe so need to use it in order to ripen cervix before drip? Has anyone had any experience of this method actually working? We live quite far from the hospital and I am concerned about having it in to be sent away or it just falling out if cervix is already dilated to the stage when it is normally removed anyway?

The foley catheter is put in your cervix and expended to create like a weight i side your cervix, and then another balloon on the outside, the theory is that the weight dilates your cervix. Then the dilation triggers contractions.

To be honest i think it fab they are wanting to try this as opposed going straight for drugs, medicated induction can be really long and painful especially if your body isnt quite ready.

You could ask for a very low dose 'single shot' of pictocin rather than a drip as it could just need a little kick start rather than a full on drip.

Maybe try a very long walk today and lots of nipple stimulation and see if you can start a few contractions

I have walked miles daily every day this week and it's not done the trick at all. Neither has my birth ball, or anything else for that matter!

I had a bad experience with induction with my first child so have waited and hoped it didn't come to it again and agree it sounds better in theory, but does it actually work? I can't find one post on line from anyone who has just had the catheter, they all seem to use it to ripen cervix before moving on to other induction methods?

Quick update in case anyone is in similar state of confusion in the future.
I went to the hospital an sat for an hour before midwife read my notes and came in saying community midwife hadn't actually told her on the phone I was already starting to dilate so the balloon ethos wouldn't work, I am beyon that stage and should have been booked straight into delivery for membrane rupture.
Only issue was delivery was then full so home I go, again!
