Overdue!!!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone out there has any advice, I am now six days overdue with my second baby and I am going out of my mind. Today I had a membrane stretch and sweep at 12pm, and although I have been having contractions since 6pm, they are really irregular and don't seem to be getting me anywhere. I really want this baby out - NOW - I'm desperate. Any ideas???

Sex. Lots of it. Semen has lots of prostaglandins which is what's in the gel they use to induce birth in hospital and orgasm releases the hormone oxytocin which causes uterine contractions.

Worked a treat for me!

I know how you feel, I was due on Wednesday.

Excuse the personal references, but you could try:

Fresh pineapple, hot spicy curry, castor oil, aromatherapy oils (lavender and clary sage seem to be recommended lots for starting labour) walking up and down the stairs sideways (literally left side first) walking in general, really scrubbing something like windows/oven, nipple stimulation, orgasmS, sex.

How are you feeling other than thouroughly pissed off with waiting now?!

Gillian76 · 05/12/2006 00:07

Sleep.

I have tried everything in the book and am firmly of the belief that nothing will make a baby come out until it's good and ready

Not what you wanted to hear I realise but you need to get lots of rest and try not to think about it. I know it's frustrating but it won't be long.

veritysalter · 05/12/2006 00:11

I feel ok, the back pain is awful, I kind of forgot all about my last labour, and it's all come flooding back.
I would try the sex thing, but I think my husband may well strangle me if I wake him up (full on labour excepted) I've been a bit of a bitch recently, but he will keep saying things like "It'll come when it's ready" and "not long now".
I am just about to scrub the kitchen floor, going on the 'two-birds-with -one-stone' theory.

Have you had any signs of any thing about to happen yet?

veritysalter · 05/12/2006 00:16

Not really, but then I'm not 100% sure.
Last time my waters broke, two hours later I had a little back ache, which quickly progressed to crushing pelvis pain - only just got to the hospital in time.
I think that's what's making this so awful, I expected it to be as quick.

DIY orgasms.. not for the fun of it.. just as a means to an end. Back to back.. just keep on doing it.. it gets a bit boring so you can play pc solitaire or something with other hand!

If your cervix is ripe, this will work, because orgasms cause contractions (little ones) and the proper ones will kick in..

NativityJane · 05/12/2006 00:18

Did you go over last time?

I really do understand how you are feeling, I was feeling OK up until yesterday, then it all of a sudden hit me, have been a grumpy old cowbag since!

veritysalter · 05/12/2006 00:19

I was told that I was 2cm dilated and that I was 70% effaced(?), also that the baby is in a good position.

Nativity Jane - I can't believe that you were ok with all this for so long!
I absolutely hate being pregnant, this is definately the last time.
My little girl was only one day over.

I have been having a bit of a time of it for the past few weeks, but I tried to just get on with things, deciding that he would come when he is ready and everything else all those 'helpful' people say, now, I have just had enough, I am starting to actually count down the days till they will induce me!

veritysalter · 05/12/2006 00:33

I have another sweep booked for wednesday and inducing on friday, so he should be here for the weekend - but that seems such a long time away. I'm enormous and have a two year old little girl who's full of beans (thankfully now asleep), I however cannot sleep thanks to my immense belly!!! Have you had the phone calls?? Those people (in-laws mainly) who think you might have forgot to tell them that you've had a baby? I swear I will scream at the next one.

NJ how are you feeling tonight?

MKGnearlyimmaculateconception · 05/12/2006 00:36

Veritysalter,

I'm sorry to say that we've tried everything on NJ and nothing has worked. It's just a waiting game.

NativityJane · 05/12/2006 00:38

I have a sweep booked for Wednesday as well

And yes the phone calls/texts/people in the street are all very lucky to still be alive! My mum and sister ring every day and say 'any news?' as if we wouldn't bloody tell them if anything had happened. And people in the street, or when I am doing the school run, 'have you had that baby yet?' feel like screaming 'Does it flippin' well look like it?' LOL

Even my next door neighbour is at it, I had to call my DH home from work this morning and as soon as his van pulled up on the drive the phone was ringing and it was them asking if everything was OK!

I suppose we should be grateful people care enough to ask, but I wish they'd give it a rest sometimes!

NativityJane · 05/12/2006 00:40

MKG,

I am just fed up with it all now, this bloody swelling is so uncomfortable, even sitting down is hurting just the pressure it is putting on my legs, my whole body feels like a soft banana, and god only knows what I look like!

veritysalter · 05/12/2006 00:40

MKG - that is not a kind thing to say to someone in this situation! I just want to hear crap and old wives tales that will at least get me through tonight!
Is it too late to change my mind and say I'll just be happy with the one I've got?

OP posts:
NativityJane · 05/12/2006 00:42

LOL Yes it is wayyyyyy too late now, there is only one way that baby is coming out.....

(Believe me I have tried getting him out other ways, and it just doesn't work!)

veritysalter · 05/12/2006 00:43

I've got Mother and Toddler club on thursday, but I don't think I can face it - the look of disappointment on their faces when I waddle in! I feel like I've done something really bad by not having had the baby by now!

OP posts:
NativityJane · 05/12/2006 00:45

You might be glad of the distraction by then.

veritysalter · 05/12/2006 00:46

My DH has accused me of lying about being pregnant, in fact, I allegedly stay up all night eating pies!!!

OP posts:
veritysalter · 05/12/2006 00:51

Don't want to make anyone feel ill, but just been to the loo (again) and I've got pinkish goo coming out of me? Do you think that's the sweep??

OP posts:
NativityJane · 05/12/2006 00:54

LOL, Someone the other day was going to have a go on their friends huge trampoline to get herself going

I am going to go and get in the bath again, I am finding it is the only place my back doesn't hurt, and it helps the contractions! I hope things get moving for you soon if I don't bump into you again before you go into labour

G'night xxx

G'night MKG, will catch up properly tomorrow or something xxx
