well, kind of. when asked by the consultant where i am planning on giving birth and i replied home it was more - well it is your choice and we cannot force you to come into hospital if you don't want to BUT you are at risk of scar rupture and heavy bleeding etc. But i was really expecting to have a fight on my hands so very happy. I had c-section with my first back in 2004 as i was over 42 weeks, induced and labour wasn't progressing. Then I had hospital vbacs in 2009 and 2012. just makes me laugh that they would rather let me give birth at home then allow me into the midwife-led-unit at the hospital. Home or labour ward, nothing in between.
I've got to go back at 36-37 weeks with my final choice after weighing up the risks but i'm just going to do the happy dance right now Grin

Happy for you!!! :)

There is no logic in nhs rules sometimes.

Not sure about risks of hb after c section but just wanted to say I loved my homebirths (ds2 and dd) compared to hospital birth for ds1. So relaxing and peaceful (well maybe less so towards the end!). It makes such a huge difference being in your own environment. Also so much better for dh as they don't feel like a spare part. And there is nothing like getting into your own bed with tea and toast after all that hard work!

dh being more involved is part of the reason I've said i want a homebirth, although he would much rather i had the baby in hospital. its just last time ds was born just after 8pm. after all the checks were done we were transferred onto the ward and dh was sent home as it was outside visiting hours. I just felt that was so harsh. his first son, less then 2 hours old and he's sent home, whilst i'm left, exhausted, alone with a newborn. When I explained this to the consultant today they advised me that I can discharge myself anytime I like so there is no need to go onto a ward overnight, i am more then welcome to go home. so that's good to know as well.
the main risk with any vbac is the scar rupturing. the risk is 1 in 200, 0.5%. I've look online and that statistic includes those who's scar ruptures before labour, those that occur when the mother falls pregnant within 6 months of the original C-section and those who have subsequent multiples. i'm pretty sure the risk of rupture, almost 12 years later, and after 2 vbacs with no tears, is actually an awful lot smaller.
the other risk is because its my 4th is the chance postpartum haemorrhaging is slightly increased but we live close to the hospital, its a 10minute drive for us, be even quicker with blue lights, and i have no other risk factors.

tea and toast in own bed sounds amazing! I'm glad it was such a positive experience for you

Good for you ??
My consultant is happy for me to go midwifery lead as long as I stay 'low risk' (she's not considering my section 12 months ago as putting me high risk).
Hope all goes well xx

LumpySpaceCow · 13/10/2015 19:58

And your risk of rupture is much lower after 2 subsequent vbac.
Interestingly, the risk of rupture is the same risk as a first time mother having a cord prolapse during labour but not everyone is scare mongered with that xx

Good luck. Glad you're able to go for the birth you're most comfortable with.

I had a hospital birth with dd1 and had to stay in overnight for no other reason than not having the staff to discharge us! I hadn't realised I could have just left or I would have.

Home birth with dd2 was so much nicer. Born at 7pm, pizza at 10pm and in bed for 10.30 :-)
