Just that really! The more I read, the more I get convinced it's nearly impossible. Someone prove me wrong please! Have to be induced, but really would like to give birth naturally and preferably with no epidural.. Thanks!

I had what they call an augmented labour with first baby.

I was in early labour at home for 36h and they only told me to come in as I was 9 days overdue and had experienced a trickle of water. So they wanted to check me fuck knows how much longer I would have been left had I not had that trickle but that is another thread

I was 5cm and I was allowed to use Birthing Centre. However as I was exhausted, dehydrated and already low on energy after 3 hours and only 1 extra cm dilation, I was transferred to labour ward.

Immediately my waters were broken [baby's head was so low it was acting as a plug] and I was also put on the syntocinon drip. I probably should have had one or the other again a different thread

Dr offered me an epidural when he hooked me up to the drip. I refused and he said "see you in an hour when you change your mind"... fuckwit!!!

Things did ramp up a hell of a lot - and I did cave and have some Diamorphine (Amazing stuff!!) but I didn't have an Epi.

I would say getting from 6cm to delivery was the most enjoyable time of my labour as it finally felt like something was happening. After 36 hours at home and another 15 in hospital I managed to push my baby out all by myself. Although I wasn't far away from needing intervention and I was a complete physical wreck for weeks afterwards [no tears or grazes though!! Actually my vagina was the only part of me that was unscathed by my labour??]

I certainly wouldn't have wanted the same labour for second child - and yes we did go on to have second child and she was born within 80 minutes of arriving at the hospital - but it wasn't too bad. Just long, and tiring...

I had my labour helped along with the drip with dc1. I had diamorphine. I'd been in labour for 40 hours by the time I got the drip. I did attempt an epidural but it fell out and didn't work!

With dc2 I was induced with the drip. I just had gas and air and it was absolutely fine and all over with very quickly. It was far less painful that my first birth and I didn't need anything. I don't think I really needed the gas and air but I liked it!

I was induced with ds1 and was told that I 'would need' an epi. I refused and despite being in Labour for 31 hours managed with just gas and air. Ds2 was back to back and I found that far more painful than being on the drip, I had diamorphine for her.

I think the thing to remember is that every Labour is different, I have 4dc and all of my labours have been very different. 2 managed with gas and air, 1 epi and 1 diamorphine.

Should say dc2 not ds2 .

I've been induced twice. ARM and drip both times. Gas and air each time. 3 hour labours each time.

People only tell the bad stuff - stop reading'

Best idea ever to start this thread. Every time I feel panicky (which is more often than not these days) I open it and re-read. I hope I'll be able to add my positive gas and air story to yours, haha, in about 6 weeks time! Or maybe he'll just be a good boy and decide to come naturally before the induction day!

I had it both times.

First time round the epidural failed. I only had it because I felt I 'should'. Contractions were fine no worse than toothache.

Second time round baby was big and back to back - had gas and air. Contractions were bloody bloody painful but manageable.

Both were born in 6 hours and had massive heads !!! No forceps or anything needed.

It's doable. Just play it by ear.

LucozadeBreath · 11/10/2015 20:16

I had the pessary first, which got me going, but then slowed down, so I had the synto drip put in...only had it going for about 20 mins, because there was pretty much no break in between contractions! I had planned for no pain relief, but I gave in and tried gas and air, but I made me terribly sick, and I didn't like feeling all spaced out. In the end I just thought "sod the gas and air, I need to be in the room and focus on the task in hand"....it really wasn't as awful as I expected! I think childbirth is definitely a very strange type of pain...in a way, I think the immense pressure "down there" is worse than the pain!

Induced, straight on drip and 10lbs back to back baby.

Managed it on gas and air which worked really well for me - although I was told to ease up on it at one point. I did ask for pain relief but they weren't able to sort it out in time (despite being on that damn drip for 12 hours before DD showed up).
