How many people were knackered after birth?! How many people were so tired they just wanted to sleep?

You see, it was so different for me - both times.

First one was a 2 day jobbie after being induced, and second was 7 hours start to finish.

Yet.... BOTH times, I wasnt tired..... complete opposite. I was buzzing - on a total high. I would love to do it all over again one day!

Come on then - your verdict, am i weird?!

never felt tired exact opposite, I was on a total high after both births. THink i couldn't believe that this little thing was mine. BOth mine were delivered in the evening and dont think i slept till next night but was knackered by then.

Two quick births here, 7 and 8hrs, didn't want to sleep until the evening with both, on far too much of a high

poppiesinaline · 30/11/2006 22:14

errr, its because your body releases hormones to do exactly that... keep you awake to look after your baby so you don't fall into a state of complete exhaustion because of the birth. Thats why all men walk around like zombies for the first few days and the woman (who has done all the hard work) is buzzing round like a demented maniac

I couldnt sleep properly for days after the births of my 3 sons....I was on a major high, but did suffer for it after a few days lol. This time I'm gonna try to sleep as much as I can after the birth, tho It'll probably be impossible I get too excited about the baby

katyjo · 01/12/2006 16:59

I was definately on a high, tired yes but I didn't really feel like sleeping. I got the baby blues on about day 5 and it was like coming down off drugs (no personal experience of drugs, but felt like it).
It is such an amazing time, can't wait to do it again, but I will be more prepared for the highs and lows next time!

I was buzzing, too, and although physically wrecked, was rather stupid and went out shopping 12 hours after getting home (which was 6 hours after delivering which was 36 hours after active labour starting!). I was also surprised to hear that friends were wheeled from the labour room as I walked everywhere after an epidural.....has to be said, though, when the adrenaline and happy hormones wore off, I wished I'd taken it easy!

MerryChristmasfromQV · 02/12/2006 12:14

Shattered both times but couldnt/was allowed to sleep.

JinglePrunes · 02/12/2006 12:26

Brilliant high. Couldn't sleep at all and in fact lay awake the first night thrilled and terrified by the responsibility and convinced I may never sleep again

lulumama · 02/12/2006 13:06

DS - failed induction, ending in emergency c,s
didn;t so much fall asleep...but pass out a couple of hours after the birth...all the self administered morphine...woke up in the dark, in a pool of blood, in bed. lights off...everyone gone and no baby!!!!!!!!!!!

midwives were looking after him ......

DD- spontaneous natural labour......laboured all day, and into the night..and delivered 01.15..after my bath.. sat in the rocking chair , looking at her and marveling...didn;t sleep again until the next night...too excited..then only slept about 4 hours.....

then the adrenaline wore off and i felt terribly tired and sore and slept a lot !!

was fairly knackered after dd, she was born at 3pm after days of labour and a very scary birth and by the time my parents and dp went home at 9is i was ready to pass out. no such luck though, she was a difficult baby to settle form the minute she was born. eventually fell asleep at 5am with her on my lap and a nurse rescued her and plopped her in her goldfish bowl, only for me to be woken at 6am by a doctor wanting to draw blood

with ds i was freakin wired though, he was born at 11.45 pm and i was on the ward by 1.30 but i couldn't sleep at all, just snuggled him and tried to feed him when he stirred, not that he was having any of it!. a nurse popped her head in in the morning to check on me and said 'did you get any sleep no? always the way!' so it must be pretty common!
