waters broken being induced if no contractions help!

Hi, my waters broke yesterday I only have until lunchtime today to go into natural labour otherwise I'll have to be induced. This is the worse possible outcome and not what I had wanted. Anybody any tips on how to get it started and avoid being induced?

Hi

My fist labour was like this, my waters broke at 36w 5d and nothing! I was induced 48hours later and it was fine. They started the drip on a low level and slowly increased the drugs. I started having mild contractions which built up as the drugs increased, when they got too painful they turned the drugs down to a level I could cope with. I had a small amount of gas and air to help.

As my dd was head down and pressing on my cervix it thinned very quickly, from drip in to her out was about 5-6hours. Inducement doesn't have to mean slow labour.

Whilst it was not the labour I had planned it was a positive experience.

Hope it all goes well for you.

We walked miles trying to get labour started but did wasn't budging with the drugs!

Thanks Katz, they are giving me the 6hour pessary and after 24hours, must have been more traumatic for you at 36, I am actually due on Sunday

When my waters broke, the hospital weren't bothered at all about inducing and said they'd happily wait till 72 hours. You can always refuse and hang on a bit longer. Ask them what the evidence is for inducing after 24 hours. Increased chance of infection, yes, but how much is the increase?
I went into labour naturally 36 hours after my waters broke and had a 3 hour long labour and a home birth, no trouble at all.

I was told didn't need the pessary as waters were gone so straight to drip. Was only a couple of days of 37 weeks Anna she was 37 weeks bang on when she was born. I wasn't kept in hospital, after waters broken diagnosed was sent home. I hadn't finished packing my hospital bag so had to head to mothercare for some bits and pieces.

Good luck - and just think not long until you get to hold your newborn

I agree with ninja - you can wait for inducement, 13 (eek!) years ago when I had my dad they left you for at least 48h it was actually 56 by the time my drip was placed. Think they now wait 72 h too. Most people will spontaneously go into labour within that time, equally thinking about it I would challenge the pessary as this could be an infection risk and it's normally used to soften the cervix which with no waters and a baby's head on will do all by itself.

I was sent away and told to monitor my temp and if it increased to come back as this was a sign of infection.

I had a case of thrush earlier this week, not sure if raises chance of infection....i may ask if they can hold off to 36 hours.... I always thought I would be late and we'd have October baby, so not really prepared mentally yet. Rang my mum, parents arriving Sunday evening instead of next week that'll keep me calmer.

Anything happening?

contractor6 · 19/09/2015 21:34

Update, pessary worked but they didn't think it had, were going to take me for drip, when had severe contractions, I was 9cm with no pain relief. To late for epi or pathedine, had gas and air and 2 hours pushing baby daughter was born. Those contractions were worst part of labour. But very happy now Smile

Congratulations Flowers

Congratulations and welcome to your new baby girl

BiscuitMillionaire · 19/09/2015 22:43

The same thing happened to me! The pessary worked but they told me the pains were just from the drug, not labour... until they realised I was in labour. Many congratulations! A wonderful outcome. Flowers
