I have a few questions! Any experience appreciated.

Will someone dress me? (Assuming spinal will mean I can't dress myself!), if so will they put a pad on or will I just be sat on a sheet? I'm assuming I'll bleed pretty much straight away? I remember with both previous vaginal births that as soon as I stood up it gushed out and I can't help thinking if I don't stand for 12+ hrs then the floor isn't going to look pretty!

How quickly were you up on your feet?

People say where big pants so they don't rub on wound - how big are we talking?

Any other pearls of wisdom you can share that'll be fab!

Thanks

There's a lot less lochia than with a vaginal birth because they 'hoover' most of it out when they do the CS.

Mine was 8 weeks with an emcs. I was looking forward to the hardly any lochia thing! I guess it's just luck.

Up to the loo, catheter out within about 6-8 hours I think. Feeling came back to my legs very quickly after the spinal catheter was removed.

I stayed in the hospital gown, it was comfy, clean and I was hot. Easy to latch baby on to feed too.

Huge throw away/cheepo pants from primark, didn't bother washing them, just threw them away.

Pushing the pram through the snow, taking ds 1 to school 10 days later.

All together, a good experience.

EMCS at 1am, next morning catheter was taken out and I got changed from gown into pjs. I'd taken wet wipes in to clean myself up with so didn't get a bed bath. I can't remember what happened with pads before I got changed but I don't remember leaking on the floor.

Seriously, the bleeding is just luck. They might hoover out what's there at the point of delivery but following delivery you lose the uterine lining and blood from the placental wound. There is no difference between vaginal or cs lochia.

Thanks guys. The bleeding afterwards in terms of quantity and duration isn't a concern as there isn't much I can do about It. Smile
Thanks for all the tips and sharing experiences.

Sorry another question! Regarding before the operation...
How did you cope with no having food or water? I'm normally ravenous by 8am Confused

What time is your section? Mine was emergency so I'm not sure, but with other operations I've had I've been allowed little sips of water

bonzo77 · 05/06/2015 22:07

My second was an elcs and I was in theatre around 9.30am. Despite normally being very hungry at breakfast I was too excited / nervous to be hungry. I think I finally ate mid afternoon.

nutelladipper · 06/06/2015 08:28

Thanks Abbey, I don't know yet I'm 10 wks away! X
