Whenever your surgeon or consultant says so.I had dd at 10am Tue and was home before 10am Thursday.

NAB3 · 08/11/2006 12:22

Don't be in a rush. I had my son on Moday night and went home Sat am. I wanted to go Thurs at 2am as I was so upset and felt okay to go on the Friday but I had to stay.

Take it easy and don't life anything heavier than the baby. You could start bleeding again if you do.

bonkerz · 08/11/2006 12:23

had dd on monday and was out by Thursday morning.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/11/2006 12:24

Current NICE standards say: 24 hours after you've had the baby, if you are not feverish, you can go home.

Although hospitals have these standards on the wall, that doesn't mean the staff have read them or agree with them.

That being said, I had a section at 6am Friday and was home Saturday afternoon. Because hospital days start at noon (!!), Saturday afternoon was counted as the third day after my section, which probably helped. I would have signed myself out against medical advice anyway, I was all ready to. (It's what I did after my first section!)

NotQuiteCockney · 08/11/2006 12:25

(I don't think women should be made to leave, 24 hours after a section - but I think they should be allowed to, if they want to, and have good support at home.)

ProfYaffle · 08/11/2006 12:25

There was a thread recently that said the NHS budget for a 48 stay after c/s, I assume that's if all is well. I had dd on Sunday night and was out Wednesday afternoon, would have been sooner if it wasn't for hanging around for the dispensary to send my meds up.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/11/2006 12:26

Actually, the thread said the NHS budget 48 hours after any birth - most vaginal deliveries probably come out under that, and most CSes over, I'd think.

katierocket · 08/11/2006 12:42

Interesting. It's not definite I'll have to have one yet but DS is already worried about me being in hospital to have baby and I really want to be in there for the minimum amount of time poss.

I was discharge after 8 days. I couldnt drive for 9 weeks though due to insurance or something.

Gem13 · 08/11/2006 12:56

I got booted out less than 48 hours later. DD born lunchtime Friday, told I could leave on Sunday morning but I wanted to stay in! I was really cross as they'd been fussing about my blood pressure and loss of blood and then told me to go. It was a case of bed clearance I think but I didn't feel great.

nicand2 · 08/11/2006 13:44

I had a c section 17 days ago and had to stay for 3 days.

I wanted to go home before then because i was home sick but to be honest didn't feel up to it. You'll be surprised at how little you can do after a section eg, get out of bed and walk for the first few days.

pinkmagic1 · 08/11/2006 13:51

2 and a half years ago when I had DS, it was 5 days for a c-section and 48 hours for a vaginal birth. Now the hospital say 2 days for a c-section and ASAP (about 6 hours) for a straightforward vaginal birth. All about NHS cost cutting I'm sure!

plibble · 08/11/2006 13:59

DD was born at 12:24pm on Friday and I left on Monday. The doctor said that if she had been born before noon, i would have been allowed home on Sunday. This was something to do with their policy that mothers could leave on "day 3" and hospital days beginning at noon.
Honestly I wish I had stayed a bit longer - it is much easier to take it easy and do nothing but look after the baby in hospital.

hermykne · 08/11/2006 14:00

five after my dd
and four after my ds

but i think because i was private that was ok.had i been public for the c/s probably 3.

Kelly1978 · 08/11/2006 14:02

I had the dts at 6pm wed, and left on the sat. I was desperate to get home so that I could get some sleep. My boys wailed most of the night so I wanted to be home where dp could help me! I had to wait until my iron levles picked up a bit though, because they were very low.

katierocket · 08/11/2006 14:02

Thanks everyone. I kind of realise that rushing out too early probably isn't wise but I just feel so horrible about the idea of being stuck in hospital while DS is at home.

After DD I had her at 9pm (emergency section) and left by 3pm the following day. The aftercare was appalling, and if she had been my first I would have had a terrible start breastfeeding etc. They were understaffed-and could't wave me off fast enough.Basically I had no care whatsoever-even my urine bag from the catheter leaked, as no one had changed it. But please plan for a good couple of days at least, as I'm sure any decent hospital wouldn't let you escape as quickly as I did!!

katierocket · 08/11/2006 17:36

Eek wisp - that sounds a bit grim.

katie.... aer you having an elective c.s ( not had a chance to read the whole thread!) as that might make a difference...?

SecondhandRose · 08/11/2006 17:54

4 nights but don't be in a hurry to get home. I was in quite a bit of pain, they were sharp pains, trapped wind apparently and I thought they'd left the scissors in me!

hulababy · 08/11/2006 18:18

I had DD on the Friday night and was home before lunch on the Monday. I couldn't wait to get home. I hated being in hospital and didn't get any rest there really. I did take it easy when home though.
