Just a quicky.....anyone know where I can get hold of any of the research that suggests its benefical for a baby born by forceps or ventouse to see a chiropractor or osteopath to check their spines alignment? Or if indeed this works, is a worth while avenue to go down etc.

I do not have any research but think it is worthwhile taking baby to osteopath just to have a check over after any type of birth. I went to osteopath with my 10 month old because he did not seem 'comfortable' with himself, it turned out his chest and rib cage were very tense and tight and she thought it might be to do with a) his fast delivery and b) the fact that he did not cry when he came out. Anyway 6 sessions later I definitely have a far happier baby who is also starting to sleep better.

My fabulous osteopath in London routinely treat newborns at St John's and Lizzies and the figures suggests that nearly 70% of assisted delivery babies will have some neck compression or straining from the birthing. My DS had the worst time latching on to feed from one side and it turned out that his little neck muscles were slightly strained! No wonder he screamed every time we tried to get him to turn his head to the one side, poor thing - he had 2 sessions and was a new child!! - I would definitely suggest a visit to the osteo for some treatment - certainly won't hurt.
