Id like to hear from women who were terrified of labour but found it okay!

Hi ladies,

Currently 30 weeks pregnant and have always been scared of labour, not to the extent of not wanting children but scared non the less.

I have just completed hypno birthing classes and am generally feeling a bit more relaxed about the whole thing but as im now into my third trimester I am starting to worry again and was wondering if any of you felt the same but went on to have a lovely birth?

Thanks x

I was TERRIFIED particularly of the tearing/episotomy prospect and forceps...and being induced...and generally healing afterward.

All my worst fears came to pass...I was induced and ended up with a tear, cut and forceps delivery.

BUT none of it was as awful as I thought it would be and the recovery afterwards was great, I was sore/battered and bruised for about a week and then my stitches were sore for about 2/3 weeks after that.

I was surprised and how positive I felt (and still feel) about my birth experience.

I'm pregnant again and still feel anxious now I know what is coming but also feel weirdly excited!Grin

Good luck and I hope you have a great birthing experience too! Flowers

I was terrified 2nd time, not of the labour itself but of the hcps due to pretty poor treatment with my 1st.

I changed hospitals and onto a known mw scheme. They couldnt have been nicer. I got royal treatment because of it Smile

Me. Hypnobirthing - no pain, no drugs, no tearing. It was great!

I wasn't scared with dd1 or dd2 but strangely was petrified with dd3! I felt like I had an exam due and was so nervous leading up to it, but when it started I just forgot to be scared and got on with it! The best thing I was told and I clung to it in all births is just imagine your baby coming out and meeting them. Every contraction is one closer to meeting them and also the relief when the baby is out is the best feeling ever!! I never did hypnobirthing but think the concept is great as what I have found is that staying in control, accepting that yes it hurts but it will end is the best thing you could do therefore you are well set and I bet it won't be as bad as you think. People like to tell horror stories, but most still go onto have more so it can't be too bad!

I completely was terrified ! I had been a birthing partner to a friend who had a text book delivery but I was still completely freaking out! Cdnt understand all my nct group going on about breathing through the pain etc I was so going for an epidural and maximum pain relief ! However my midwife talked to me gave me her number said she Wd deliver me whenever she was working or not my doctor was completely against a midwife led unit however I went in with a tens machine and had my waters broken. The gas and air did notwork as it was too fast and strong but 3hours later in a birthing pool came my son ! My nct class who were all going to do it naturally did not and what I learnt from that was the best laid plans sometimes don't work out and as long as the baby is healthy that's what matters good luck x

I was terrified before I got pregnant and was wondering if their was another way! I kept it light if people told me their birth stories and said oh dear that was a shame for you, and just tried not to commit too much into my mind about pain. My labour and birth was actually amazing totally unexpected, I arrived at the hospital at 8cm and delivered an hour later in the pool. I was totally silent and remember thinking during a contraction how powerful my body was and focused on all the positives I could think off. A few days before I said I was worried to my aunt and she said she would honestly do it for me if she could as the worst bit is not knowing how it should feel. When I found out I was pregnant again I definitely wasn't scared of giving birth. I hope it goes really well for you!

I did natal hypnotherapy (CDs etc) turned up at the hospital fully dilated not believing I could be in real labour as not painful enough. Only went in as water had gone. 4 hours later some gas and air and a baby. Easy peasy! A number of my friends have used natal hypnotherapy too and all have had relatively easy times of it. I swear it really works
