How does it all work?

What do you do with your other children?

How does it get filled and emptied?

When does the midwife come to you?

Any inför welcome.

Thank you

Hi,

We'd planned for my mum to pick up ds - but didn't need her in the end as l laboured all evening while he was in bed, dd born in the early hours.

You fill the pool with a normal hose from the taps. Hired pools come with an electric pump to empty it.

Midwife will come when your having regular contractions. Or earlier if you feel you need support/ to be checked

My mum picked dd1 up when my contractions started to get closer.

MW came out to do a check as contractions were getting closer but she left me too it as was 3-4cm and phoned again an hour later and came back. Hubby filled pool with pump supplied with it once my wTers went.
He emptied it down toilet with the drainage pump supplied.

Wonderful experience. X

I've had two, bought a Birth pool in a box which was used for both. Filled from the taps with a new hose, emptied (by DH) using a pump.
My other dc slept through both labours/births but we did have childcare lined up (family/friends) in case we needed them.
I have very short labours so called for a MW as soon as anything started, they can take an hour or two to get to you

Thanks ladies.
Did you find you had enough hot water to fill the pools?

How long did it take?

It took a couple of tanks worth, so had to put the immersion heater on!
First time we started filling it about 5am and the baby was born at 6:30 - we kept the hose on the whole time, I liked having really hot water directed at my back during contractions. Second time started filling straight away as we knew it took a while! So probably an hour to fill but then I didn't get in because we didn't have a midwife and I didn't want to deliver underwater on my own. Jumped in as soon as they arrived and baby arrived 10 minutes later.

Thanks Empress.

yeah we figured a few tanks and about an hour.

My pool took about an hour to fill. I left it a bit late and only managed to get in just before I started pushing oops.

Hey!

The pool is filled using a hose and tap connectors which can connect to your kitchen/bathroom taps and an electric pump is usually provided to empty it! I think it took a good hour to fill the pool (due to my partner not actually checking everything properly beforehand and secretly hiding in the kitchen getting in a panic as he couldn't get the water to fill very quickly! Angry)

The midwife will come when you ask her to, when she arrived with me I was already 5cm so she stayed the whole time. She was with me within 20 minutes of calling too.

My older child was in bed when it all started and the midwives arrived (around 3am) and he woke up around 6am and would pop down to see if the baby has arrived yet then go upstairs to watch TV! He came down for the end and was absolutely intrigued by it all!

Thanks
