C section when overweight

Hello :)

I'm only 14 weeks but due to an orange sized fibroid im not having to consider the possibility of a c section.

I'm not so much worried about the procedure itself. More the recovery. I know bleeding is a
Problem with people who have fibroids but also I'm worried about if I can recover quickly without complications with a bmi of 35.

Does anyone have experience?

I had an emergency section under GA two weeks ago, almost the hour. My BMI is around 35 although I've lost weight since then!

My section was slightly different because of the reasons for the emergency (my daughter's head had turned and her heart rate fell), but the section itself was fine.

I lost a lot of blood and became anaemic but this has been treated with iron tablets rather than blood transfusion. However I don't think the blood loss was weight related.

Other than that my recovery has been great. I was able to mobilise the morning after my section (I had the section in late afternoon). Had a shower/wee/poo the morning after. Discharged within 48 hours and able to hold, pick up baby absolutely fine. My advice would be to make sure you stay on top on painkillers and listen to your body.

Two weeks later I'm on no painkillers and able to walk for around 20-30 mins before I start to feel tired/weird pulling feeling, and then we come back home. I've lost almost all my baby weight and I'm back in pre pregnancy jeans and bra. My scar is healing really well and if anything they appear to have given me a little tummy tuck!

Don't worry, please try to enjoy this lovely time and don't listen to too many horror stories. It's really not that bad and you'll be fine xxx

Thank you KensingtonRose!

Your experience has made me feel better about it all and I'm glad you're recovering well.

It all seemed daunting at the time and it's not what I had imagined when giving birth but if I can avoid an emergency situation I think I'd prefer that.

Thanks againSmile

You're v welcome.

Try to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Don't take on the horror stories (people love to over egg it!) and stay on too of painkillers.

Let me know how you get on xx Smile

I am a size 14-16 so had an overhang already, the wound was underneath this which meant it took longer to heal as air wasn't getting to it. It was all fine though! I just cleaned it daily with some damp cotton wool and laid down on my back to 'air' it while baby asleep. It had fully sealed up by 5 months Smile That was just the outer wound though, my insides felt great after two weeks though and no pain from then on.
