Sorry haven't been in touch again since I talked on here about homebirth. I wasn't ignoring you, my internet was down!
Sorry!
Thanks to you and toady for all the support and messages, I just saw them last night.
I went to see the consultant, with my dh and best friend with me for moral support, and as witnesses. ( I was in a very paranoid mood, lol!)
I told the consultant that if I don't get what I and this baby need, i.e.vaginal birth, I will be having a homebirth.
Consultant not happy - "I would prefer it if you...blah blah"
Anyway, in the end I came home with agreement with consultant that I would not be having a c-section, unless this pregnancy warrants it.
So I will be staying home for as long as possible, and then going in as late as I can.
But still nervous, and not quite confident of what to watch out for, and what the danger signs might be.
Once again, thanks for all your advice.
Although I can't promise that there won't be anymore wobbly posts from me, am 39 weeks now, and really fed up.I don't know how I had the patience togo three weeks over last time!
Kay,x

THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! so very glad you are ok....!!!!

that;s so good to hear.......was so worried something bad had happened....

.danger signs re scar rupture

pain that carries on between contractions....

severe constant lower abdominal pain..worse during contractions

possibly vomiting

.burning feeling around the scar area.

slight blood loss

contracting suddenly stopping..

and other signs that hospital pick upon too...

IT IS RARE!!! toady has a really good list of things that are more common than a uterine rupture....

and an epidural can mask the signs..so best off not to have one if you can manage it!

being at home....feeling safe & supported for as long as you can before going to hospital should make a big difference....

if you ever want to CAT me, please do

or MSN

Hm, was there any reason why you could not go for a Homebirth with your mw's? Sorry, am a bit whoozyheaded, lol....having a blond day, but surely, it would be better to have a m/w present and maybe even getting that homebirth, rather then waiting and worrying about the signs of say scar rupture all by yourselfs?
Anywway, sorry if this doesn't actually make sense, or anything, but really hope that you get that vaginal Birth you want, I can absolutely understand why it is so important to you!
Best of luck, eh!

here it is:

The talk of how much more likely you are to die in a car on the way
to hospital than have a uterine rupture brought back the following to
me, and this is widely acknowledged to be fact (Henci Goer):

Your risk of dying in a car accident, over the course of your
lifetime, is between 1 in 42 and 1 in 75. This is roughly 4 to 5
times greater than the risk of uterine rupture.

You're about twice as likely to have your car stolen (that's an
annual risk) than to experience a uterine rupture.

Your odds of being murdered are 1 in 140 over the course of your
lifetime. That's 2 times more likely than the risk of rupture.

The annual risk of having a heart attack is 1 in 160, 2 times more
likely than rupture. Your risk of dying from heart disease is
roughly 1 in 6, or 55 times greater than your risk of rupture.

If you're a smoker, your risk of dying from lung cancer is 1 and a
half times more likely than a VBAC mom rupturing during her labor.

You're about 17 times more likely to contract an STD this year than
you are to have a uterine rupture; more likely to contract gonorrhea
than to rupture, as well.

You're 13 times more likely to get food poisoning than to rupture.

You're more likely to have twins than a uterine rupture. Odds of
twins: 1 in 90. That's about 3 1/2 times the likelihood of rupture.

If you ride horseback, you're 3 times more likely to die in a riding
accident than you are to experience a uterine rupture.

If you ride a bike on the street, you are 4 times more likely to die
in an accident (annual risk) than you are to suffer a rupture.

Having a serious fire in your home during the next year is twice as
likely as experiencing a rupture.

You're ten times as likely to win at roulette as you are to have a
uterine rupture.

If you flip a coin, you'll be more likely to get heads (or tails) 8
times in a row than to rupture.

The risk of cord prolapse is 1 in 37 (2.7%), or nearly ten times more
likely than that of rupture.

And a final irony (heads up, those of you who want a doc to give
his/her opinion on your likelihood of rupture next pregnancy!)...

You're 6 times more likely to have a doctor who is an impostor than
you are to suffer a rupture.

So, logically, we should worry more about almost EVERYTHING else ...
including that your own consultant never even went to university ...
than uterine rupture.

Research Research Research if you can!!

Most importantly when you do go into labour, trust your instincts, you know your body best.

So pleased you posted.

Toady · 04/11/2006 20:59
