Nights sweats post ELCS - inevitable?

Just that really, second ELCS next week and interested to hear if people always have night sweats afterwards or if it's the luck of the draw.

Didn't know about them first time around, thought I must have contracted some sort of terrible postnatal illness!

Thanks.

I did yes. I woke up with my hair wet and the pillow. It's the change in hormones.

westcountrywoman · 12/04/2015 09:26

It's a hormonal thing. The method of delivery is irrelevant. It's your body adjusting to not being pregnant anymore. Some people suffer, others don't. Some people with more than 1 child find it different each time.

Roseybee10 · 12/04/2015 10:32

I've had it badly after two straightforward v- deliveries. It's the hormones rather than how you deliver.

5YearsTime · 12/04/2015 10:36

I had them too for about 10 days after a VD. That's plus the leaking boobs... No wonder the mattressss are so plastic in hospital.

smogsville · 12/04/2015 14:28

Thanks all. Interesting - I wondered if the section meant you didn't lose fluids/ hormones in childbirth and they had to come out somehow.

Not a scientist obviously!

Will pop to the local aladdin's cave shop for some cheap towels...

I never had them following my EMCS. I've never heard of it before.

smogsville · 12/04/2015 17:45

Ah Siennasun, you're a lucky woman! They're truly heinous.

I had AWFUL night sweats after having my first baby. I would wake up freezing cold to find myself soaked in cold sweat. I went through about three t shirts a night. Pretty sure it's hormonal though, I've heard them called "milk sweats".

Second baby due next month - I'm prepared for them this time!

meglet · 13/04/2015 23:57

they were worse after my EMCS. The sheets would be damp Shock .

not so bad after my ELCS for dc2.

SueGeneris · 14/04/2015 00:00

Weirdly I had them with DCs 1 and 2 but not 3. I don't know if that was because it was winter the third time but spring the first two, or because 1 and 2 were EMCS and 3 was ELCS or just ... because!

KatoPotato · 14/04/2015 00:05

Oh wow, yay... I'd forgotten about those! I've got my 2nd elcs in 3weeks...

The bloody plastic pillows and sheets in hospital don't help much either...

smogsville · 14/04/2015 07:32

seaoflove when you say you're prepared do you mean mentally ready or have you come up with any strategies (that i can steal)?

I mean I'll have a pile of fresh t shirts next to the bed so I can change into a new one every time I wake up soaking Grin

smogsville · 14/04/2015 21:20

that's marvellous seaoflove thanks. I remember first time around reading this hilarious American site that talked about changing the sheets every morning. With a new baby in the house.

This was a revelation to me too! I woke up every night for about 4 weeks post EMCS absolutely drenched. But think of the positive, it's a really fast way of losing all the fluid/weight! 6 weeks on, I'm 3 stone 2lbs lighter! (I had twins)
Hope that helps :)

snowydrops · 15/04/2015 03:51

I didnt have them! I had an ELCS last month and no sweats. I also didn't get wind pains until ten days after.
