elcs - can you have painted toenails?

Booked in for a elcs next week. Was thinking of treating myself to a pedicure this week as I can't actually reach my trotters anymore and they're in need of TLC, also fancy a treat before DC2 arrives. But is it going to be a waste? Can you have painted toenails? (No paint on finger nails).

I had mine painted :) no one said anything. I shouldn't see why not!

Tanfastic · 24/03/2015 21:04

I had an emergency CS seven years ago (under a general anaesthetic though so don't know if that makes a difference) and I specifically remember being wheeled into theatre with the nurse taking my nail varnish off as I went.

It might be different these days.

meglet · 24/03/2015 21:05

no. All polish off ime.

SlinkyB · 24/03/2015 21:07

I wouldn't, just to be on safe side.

PuppyMouse · 24/03/2015 21:07

Think it varies. I asked my anesthetist at my ELCS pre-op and he said, "we have far more important things to worry about!" Grin I had painted toes and acrylic over my nails (clear though) so they could see my nail beds.

TheJiminyConjecture · 24/03/2015 21:17

I asked this exact question at my midwife Appointment two weeks ago. I was told in no uncertain terms that nail polish is not allowed. Both for hygiene and safety reasons (colour of nail bed)

Hmmmm looks like I'll have to find an alternative treat. More cake.......oink oink Cake

Oh no!! I am really sorry to crash this thread, but I have booked myself in for a manicure and pedicure tomorrow as a 39+6 day treat to distract myself from counting down! Is it just no painted nails for ELCS or for childbirth in general (I appreciate this sounds like a ridiculous question!!!!)

MadameJosephine · 25/03/2015 19:25

It's fine for childbirth in general but in my unit we would take it off if you were taken to theatre ruthie

meglet · 25/03/2015 19:26

just elcs's. They need to be able to see the colour of the nail bed iirc.

they'll wipe it off (badly) if you have an EMCS.

WindYourBobbinUp · 27/03/2015 10:24

Emcs back in September and it has to come off! I was being wheeled into surgery with the midwife scrubbing acetone on my toenails.
Even if you're having a VB it could turn into a cs so personally I wouldn't bother close to your due date

OurGlass · 27/03/2015 10:26

I've had two EMCS and nail varnish was taken off both times.

Hobby2014 · 27/03/2015 10:29

I had a semi elective and was asked to remove my finger nail varnish (I'd just had acrylics done!) I said they weren't real and so instead they asked me to take my toe nail varnish off. Although the varnish was black and so stained so don't know if it was any use!

Tranquilitybaby · 28/03/2015 23:49

They need to monitor your geaet and also look at the colour of your nail bed, so varnish is a no no in theatre.

Tranquilitybaby · 28/03/2015 23:49

Geaet? That should say heart!

WilsonWilsonWoman · 29/03/2015 11:57

You can still enjoy a pedicure and have the nails buffed to a high shine so no point cancelling the appointment.
