40weeks and not engaged?

Hi,
I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I'm 40w2 with my first and baby is only a tiny bit engaged. I'm just a bit worried as lots of people say with your first it happens a few weeks before. I had a midwife appointment yesterday and she says he is the right way but not slotted into my pelvis yet.
I'm still carrying really high and have trouble with breathing and bad heartburn etc. I'm now booked in for induction a week Monday but what I wanted to know was if anyone else has been in a similar situation with there first and gone into labour before needing to be induced?
I kind of feel it's not going to happen any time soon iv had no braxton hicks and don't really get any twinges.

Hi, relax - it will happen when baby is ready Smile I do understand how you feel though. My first was 10 days late and I remember thinking there must be something wrong with me in those last few days, but there wasn't - ds just couldn't be bothered to move and nothing much has changed 17 years later Grin
Make the most of having time to relax and good luck.

Oh, forgot to say that I was booked in to be induced and ds arrived naturally the day before.

My ds didn't engage until the labour. He was out in 5 pushes after quite an easy labour. Dd was engaged from 33 weeks and was a bugger to get out Grin

Both my DD engaged only while in labour. I was booked in for an induction with each but labour started naturally both times. They ware both late as well. I know how hard it is to be patient in those last days though! It seems like it will never end.

Thanks mrsbungle I'm glad you said that I was worrying that the labour would be 10x worse if he isn't in the right position.

None of my 3 engaged prior to actually being on the way out. All were back to back, which I think makes it less likely/harder for them to engage. All turned during labour, all the labours were short, 90mins active labour or less. Nothing to compare to So have no idea whether their un engaged position made labour harder.
