Has anyone given birth after cervical treatment?

Around 1 and a half years ago, I had a positive smear, and recieved treatment to my cervix. I had 2 biopsies (probably spelt wrong lol) and laser treatment...I'm due baby number 4 in just over 5 weeks, and now I'm worried that the treatment recieved might affect the delivery. I'm worried that my cervix may not dilate as well as it did before for example.

Has anyone experienced birth after treatment to the cervix, and if so, was it different to your other deliveries??

i had a colposcopy after ds2. both previous labours had been very long, possibly because i was induced. ds3 was the first baby not be induced and labour lasted 4 hours from the first twinge to the last push. i am looking into having a home birth with no.4 soon, and although my mw told me colposcopy can cause problems with dilation the hb website says many are of the opinion it can speed things up as there is less cervix to dilate. if this one takes 4 hours i will be very happy!

I've had a loop diathermy too .. and consultant was at pains to confirm that there is NO IMPACT on childbirth at all

please don't worry

TwigTwoolett · 29/10/2006 09:35

how can a colposcopy affect you? its just a big microscope!

gigglinggoblin · 29/10/2006 10:00

oh, maybe it was the loop thingy you are on about then. def wasnt a big microscope, it was where you get bits of your cervix taken off

I had a loop cone biopsy/laser treatment after es, and ms was born no problems, ys wasn't but I dilated beautyfully, but he had gotten himself into a funny position so didn't come down, so, nothing to do with the ability of the cervix to dilate!

i have had loads of treatment for cancerous cells of the cervix.
my DS was born prior to treatment and the labour took 73 hours.

DD was born after the treatments and it took 20 minutes.

if the Dr's were worried about your delivery theyw ould have spoken to you at lengths about this. i have had quite severe treatments and this only seemed to cause a little more than a second glance for my consultants.
Mind you i had polyhydramnia (sp) and i do worry that maybe it was connected..but this was during the pregnancy and had nothing to do with the delivery.

seriously hun if you only had the laser treatment and a small biopsy there will be very little difference.

try not to worry, you'll be fine

I didn't have a normal delivery, I had to have a c section as they tried to induce me for 3 days but I didn't dilate! I had quite an extensiive colposcopy under GA. It was on my notes I think but there are differing opinions whether it affects you or not. tbh, I had fears of staying pregnant iykwim.

colposcopy/laser treatment ykwim! It was 8 years ago now so hard to remember the correct term

Hi chelle, I had a colposcopy in October 2005, got pregnant in December 2005 and my ds was born last month, wasn't told there may be an issue with dilating. dd born Jan 2005 4hr labour 1st twinge to last push, ds 3.5hrs ist twinge to last push.
Please don't worry.

chelle479 · 29/10/2006 13:08

wow I feel better already lol... thanks ladies.

A friend of mine had a difficult labour where she failed to dilate beyond 5cm which she put down to her treatment, but maybe this would have been the case without treatment also, after all, every birth experience is different isnt it, and yes...I think my midwife would probably have mentioned it if she thought there may be a problem. thanks for putting my mind at rest

I had a cone biopsy in my twenties and my dd was born prematurely (only six weeks though) and the Dr's reckon my treatment could have contributed to that. I had a c/section because she was breech, so I can't tell you about dilation.

hi chelle479

i had laser treatment in Oct 2002. Was pregnant by Jul/Aug 2003 and had a beautiful DD in Apr 2004. I dilated very quickly and had no problems at all giving birth. I think they would have mentioned it before now if it was going to cause a problem. I actually think having a baby helped my cervix as I have only had negative smears since. HTH and good luck

3andnomore · 30/10/2006 16:36

Rochwen, if you had a C-section 6 weeks early due to breech...why did your doc think it could have anything to do with the cervix treatment you received????
