Hi who has given birth in Homerton or Royal London?
which one is better?

I am currently with Whipps and I hate it. the toilets are horrible and they are very disorganised, only trump is it is local.

But this is my last pregnancy and I want it to be a good experience, so want to change and the Homerton and Royal Free are the only options I have.

Which one wil you choose?

Hi
I am also local to Whipps but choosed North Middlesex.
They facilities are brand new, all equipment is new and modern. Went to the birth center and its beautiful, huge private rooms with bathroom, huge birth pool, very nice.
Not sure where exactly you are located and if it is an option for you.

I do clinics in the North Middlesex, my GP is with Redbridge and they say they can only refer to Whipps, Homerton or Royal London :(

I self refered to North Middlesex, just filed out the form on their web site and they called me in 4-5 days. They didnt care where I lived just told me that I will have my appts at the hospital clinic, they will not provide home visits for appts in my area.
Then i just told my GP i have already registered with hospital.

A friend of mine gave birth at the Royal London and was very pleased with both the facilities and the care she received. Between Homerton and RL I would definitely choose the latter. I was initially going to go to Homerton but was scared off when I read an article in the Evening Standard about a woman getting an infection there after giving birth and later dying. Upon further investigation I discovered that the hospital has had a worryingly high mortality rate amongst new mothers who gave birth there and I then decided to move to UCLH.

See: www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2942537/Fifth-mother-dies-childbirth-hospital-investigation-alarming-string-maternal-deaths.html

In short I'd stay well clear of Homerton and either go to RL or consider UCLH.

I had chosen to have my twins at Homerton Hospital, but have self refered online to Whittington Hospital due to the latest death of a mother to be in January 2015. This was the 5th death within 3 years concerning mothers or babies.

You can self refer to most hospitals either online or by phone.

Guys the deaths have been discussed recently in another threat.
At least one was due to mother declinig treatment due to religious beliefs-she needed blood trasfusion.

You can absolutely self-refer outside of "catchment area". However you do need to do it in good time so you can be accomodated into the quota of accepted referrals. Upon discharge, your hospital will send a summary to your local midwives and HVs who will take over from there.
