Would I be able to give birth vaginally if I'm pregnant with triplets?

Well, surely the question is are you pregnant with triplets?

Threesoundslikealot · 14/02/2015 19:21

It can be done. My case loading midwives supported a woman who wanted a natural birth with triplets. It will, like twins, depend I guess on how the babies are positioned, and how healthy they are at delivery. It's pretty rare though.

Yes I am having triplets Grin I'm just a very ambitious person

Am confused - how is being ambitious relevant?

Congratulations though, how far along are you? Is it your first birth?

afreshstartplease · 14/02/2015 21:39

I want triplets!

How cute!

ExitStageLeft · 14/02/2015 21:39

Holy fuck.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 14/02/2015 21:39

Ambition has nothing to do with it OP.

RueDeWakening · 14/02/2015 21:40

If they're mcda (or mcta even) then probably not, if they're dcda/tcta then possibly. Mine were mcta and I had a section on the advice of my fetal medicine consultant.

ExitStageLeft · 14/02/2015 21:40

It was a turn of phrase! Calm down everyone!

seaoflove · 14/02/2015 21:41

I'm pretty sure you will be very strongly advised not to.

How pregnant are you? Have you seen a consultant? I'm sure it will be explained to you that the risks of premature labour are high, and you'll probably be on bed rest towards the end of the pregnancy. It's unlikely all three babies will be in favourable, head-down positions, so ELCS will be the safest option for everyone.

seaoflove · 14/02/2015 21:42

Hang on, I've just remembered your thread in Baby Names - you know the sex of the babies. Surprised you haven't been having regular consultant appointments and conversations about the impending birth...

Jackieharris · 14/02/2015 21:47

The average gestation of triplets is 34 weeks.

So in terms of delivery, since they are much smaller than full term babies then in some ways the birth could be easier.

However it's so high risk. It will depend in how/when you go into labour and what condition they are in. I'd imagine that emcs are quite common with triplet births.

If you get to 37 weeks they may want to do an elcs so they can plan during normal hours when there is more cover/a consultant present. Lots of staff will be present so it will take quite a bit of planning.
