Progesterone jab..?

Another mner suggested this to me for when I have ds2b in Jan. (Sorry may have spelt it incorrectly).

I suffered with pnd when I had dd 17 months ago and was on ad's. I fell pregnant when dd was around 12 months old so stopped the ad's myself. I don't want to take ad's atm and have been seeing a counsellor to help me while pregnant BUT I feel once I have had ds2b I will need to go back onto ad's .

Does anyone have any experience of the pregesterone vaccination..? How does it work..pros and con's..??

Advice welcome and appreciated.

TIA. xx

I was warned NEVER to have progesterone b/c of my history of PND.

FWIW, I tried the progesten-only pill despite being on ADs for PND.

It intensified my depression exponentially.

why against it expat.? I thought it would be good as it;s replacing the missing hormones iykwim.?

I have spoke to my mw who says I can have it but I need to see my consultant first who will discuss it with me and will make a note on my records for me to be given it asap following the birth..Just wanted to know if it's good for your body iykwim and side effects.?

Are you still a pnd sufferer.? I suppose I just want to clear myself of this..I hate feeling the way I do and so want to be "normal" again.
I fear it's causing issues with my dh (who has been brill but feel he may be at the end of his teather so to speak)

B/c progesten can sometimes intensify depression.

A GYN refused to give my the depo jab w/this reason in mind.

The POP itself. OMG! I'd rather be on ADs from now until the end of the world then re-visit the darkness that came on me taking that tablet.

I have had PND twice. Once so severe I was briefly hospitalised.

Even now, nearly 1 year after DD2s birth, I am on max dose of Lustral.

Better that than what I felt w/progesten in my body.

Try it if you must, but man, I sure hope your body doesn't react to progesten the way mine did.

FWIW - i had severe PND and never was this suggested...i think the chemical imbalance needs addressing more than the hormones...consultant psychiatrist started me on 175 mg of venloflaxine a day-- that did the trick....and this was after 4 years of chronic ,severe, depression.....and i would rather take the tablets for ever than feel like that again..

and i am now fully recovered ,,,,and had another LO, and no PND!

suppose with the jab its in your sytem till it expires so to speak, where as with tablets you can stop them at any time and try others.

Whats the POP..? Depo jab, thats the pill isn;'t it..? So the vacination I am asking about is that aka a form of contraception..?? Little confussed.sorry. . Can't you tell I know nothing about it...

POP is the progesten only pill.

Depo is a jab of progesten that also works as a contraceptive.

And if you do a search of the threads on here about it, you'll find out just how good it works as a contraceptive, and some of the side effects - none of which seems any too pleasant.

I worked at a women's clinic in the US, and the docs refused to give Depo to ANY woman who had not completed her family.

so if I opted for the progesterone vaccination as soon as I have given birth to help with the ond, is this also a form of the contraception..???

Makes sense if it is but didn't really think of it that way. Just thought it was to get my "happy" vibes buzzing and not contraception. I haven't taken any form of contraception for over 5 years..since way before we started trying for dd. Don't really like the idea of it controlling my body iykwim. BUT would be up for it once we have completed our family..

HI shhh, I would look into the research behind using the progesterone for PND, it has been a while since I did any study that included this sort of thing but I know there was a big buzz about it's use about 10 years ago but no strong evidence that PND is caused by a hormonal imbalance. Like I say it's a long time ago since I looked into it but it's really important that anything you use is research based, don't expect you GP to know, they don't all have the most up to date knowledge on these sort of things. Do you have a CPN? If so they would be a good person to chat it through with, good luck.
