Suspected breech at 33+5 - likely to turn?

Just that, really. DC2, traumatic first labour with DS, hoping for homebirth this time and (relative to labour) uneventful labour.

MW this morning, suspected breech though the heart was in the right position for her not to be breech. Have been looking at Spinning Babies on how to flip a baby, also been in floods of tears (hormonal and not sleeping). Have a MW in two weeks, and another two weeks after that - if still suspected breech, then ultrasound to be sure.

I'm sure this is fairly common - if it happened to you, did baby turn?

  • That should read "have MW appointments"!

I was suspected breech with DC2 at 32+1, and although unsure, MW was pretty convinced breech at 36+1 as heart beat was found in the breech position, not head down. Had scan at 37wks yesterday and baby in the perfect position! So in the space of 6 days, it has turned without me knowing. I spent a long time crawling around at the weekend (mainly due to a big coffee spill on a cream carpet...)

With second babies it's more common for them to spin about a bit as the stomach muscles aren't as tight so they have a little more room to move around.

Thanks happy - and fab news your baby has flipped position.

Out of interest, where was the heartbeat found in breech position - whereabouts is that? My MW did a little experiment to see if the heartbeat was higher up near where she suspected the head was, and nothing. But she found the heartbeat first time down much lower - where they usually go to find it first.

Hiya op, my baby was breech at 31 weeks (picked up at a scan). At some point between then and 34 weeks she turned. I used the techniques from the spinning babies website, and also tried some yoga positions that I found on you tube. I also worked on my posture (sat upright with my legs wide apart, on a dining chair backwards). Not sure what eventually made her turn but she did and I didn't notice!

I found out she was head down at my 34 week appointment when the midwife had a feel and picked up the heartbeat lower down.

There's still time for your baby to turn! Good luck Smile

My dd was breech, I could feel her head wedged under my ribs and found it hard to breathe, was booked in for a scan at 38 weeks and felt her turn the night before.

They (my normal midwife and student) tried for the heartbeat low down after feeling bump and couldn't get anything. Told me if it was higher up nearer the belly button, likely in breech position. That's where they found the heartbeat.

Ds was breech and at 36 weeks saw a different mw and she said baby had turned went into labour at 38 weeks could dilate as baby still breech and ended up having a emcs. I would insist on a scan to check. Hope all goes well x

I was breech and turned at 41+5. My mum went into labour at 41+6 and I was born in the early hours of 42 weeks.

Depending on the position of the breech and the skill of the midwives attending you, home birth isn't necessarily out the window. Smile

Just wanted to answer the question in the thread title.

I'm 38+5 today. Had third presentation scan today. Baby has been breech oblique all the way along (with short holiday in transverse) and I was sure there was no chance it would move without needing an ECV.

Scan today showed baby head down! I had a lot of violent and vigorous movements over the last few evenings and thought it was baby going transverse to proper breech, had slightly wondered if bum had engaged. But baby was getting head down.

Will have one last scan next week to make sure still cephalic.

I didn't do anything to change position. When first found to be transverse I did all the www.spinningbabies.com things like hanging head down off the chair etc. just went back to breech. Kept trying, no change. Gave up after first scan and left it to baby to decide.

Good luck!
