That's it really. She is being kept in for monitoring - apparently if it keeps on she'll be operated on, if not, things should settle down. I think it might be placenta previa (sic) but know very little about the detail or implications of this kind of thing. If the baby is born now - will it be OK?

Can anyone enlighten me further / reassure me.

Thanks all

hiya
this recently happened to me - I had bleeding at 31 weeks and was in hospital for about a week - during that week I had 2 steroid injections to strengthen the baby's lungs, 2 growth scans to check the baby's growth, lots of monitoring of the baby and of any uterine contractions. I went home after 8 days , was home for 2 weeks and then the bleeding started again. I was back in for about another week and then was induced at 36 weeks. Baby born at 36+4 days and was (is!) perfect!
I had lots of concerns as well and although it was only 4 weeks ago it does seem a lot longer....I went to visit the special baby unit and spoke to some of the nurses and midwives on that unit, that was really reassuring.
It was never confirmed where the bleeding came from in my case or what caused it.
hope your friend is ok, but the best place is in the hopsital , hope baby is fine too am sure it will be

Molton, I had bleeding from about 24 weeks on ds3. It was placenta praevia. In my case I had a massive bleed the morning after Christmas and dh rushed me into hospital. I was monitored for 24 hours and given steroid injections. In that time I had two more big bleeds and eventually had an emergency CS. Ds3 had a little difficulty breathing but was fine within 48 hours. I found the NICU a bit daunting and it was hard to look at him in an incubator. I felt a bit clueless around the hospital staff who seemed to be able to feed, change and watch monitors all at the same time!
I expressed milk for ds and he was tube-fed, progressing to being bottle-fed my milk, to breast-feeding. If your BF wants to breastfeed, ideally baby should be put to the breast as soon as possible, hospital staff were reluctant to let ds feed directly from the breast but I was very keen and persisted. He's a very healthy little boy now and developing normally.

Oh yes, the thing that was very tiring was when I left hospital and ds had to stay in. It was an emotional wrench leaving him there, tough going having to travel to and fro, expressing milk every 3 hours, not seeing my other ds's as much as usual. That may be where you could help out, if you're able. Another pair of hands is greatly appreciated!
