magazines were all i found time for. some nice cds to listen to. mobile phone for sneeaky calls under the blankets, especially if you manage to get a room to yourself.
don't forget some BIG pants. and more sanitary towels than you ever thought you could use up.

sammac · 20/04/2004 17:25

I took in a book of short stories- all I could concentrate on. Def. snuck in phone for whispered conversations with dh, either under the covers or in the loo.

Magazines here too, I'm afraid. And the newspaper. And flapjacks.

and REAL chocolate. green & blacks. with cherries in it.

as regards to the sanitary towels, my sister said that her top tip post-birth is 'dry weave top sheet'. 'None of that maternity towel nonsense'.

she was a bit pissed at the time

I did read a book actually, and when I found out I was sharing a room with someone who was still in the operating theatre at the time I was v. reassured to see that the book on her bedside table was one I'd just read too! With my first (non-section birth) I certainly couldn't have read any more than a magazine, I was in pieces, but with the section I was much more compos mentis! (well, once they took the patient-controlled morphone drip off me )

Magazines, my brain was too addled for concentrating on plots.
Big knickers (or disposables) and towels.
Spare nightie, always felt better after a shower.
Ditto make up.
Tissues for those hormonal days .

Get someone to bring in some nice food, my dh brought me M&S goodies every day, fruit and salads etc, smoothies, hospital food smelt far too bad to even taste.

When are you booked in?

Kittypickle · 21/04/2004 10:11

I got part way through a book, probably would have got further but it wasn't a good one. My neighbour kindly bought me round a couple of books and a pack of shower gel & body cream, told me I would need some pampering. I was quite skeptical at the time, but she was totally right - treat yourself before you go in. The other thing that really helped was one of those masks to go over your eyes that you would use on a plane and a set of earplugs, couldn't have slept without them. Also I found it much easier after second section than the first and recovered far faster. Good luck
