I just spotted that Huggies come in newborn size 1 (4-11lbs) and size 2 (7-13lbs) - or thereabouts. Which ones should I buy??

I would go with newborn size, unless you have any reason to suspect you're going to have a (gulp) twelve-pounder.

I took the littlest ones - both boys went through the whole pack in about 7 minutes and then I bought the next size up and then used washables, phew.

Baretoes · 16/10/2006 21:18

7 minutes????
Am I right in thinking just one pack to start with? Am concerned that baby might arrive on a sunday eve or over christmas and so no shops will be open!

I took the newborn size into hospital with me. They fit both boys until they were around 3 weeks old & then I moved up to the next size up.

Sophiev73 · 16/10/2006 21:22

Not really 7 minutes, obviously, not shooting poo out like a machine gun (actually....) But I'd have a pack ready and you'll be fine. Garages etc sell them! If this is your big worry you're doing a damn sight better than me (didn't even have a nightie packed! Gulp!)

2 packs of size 1 should be ample; and Tesco own brand are much better than huggies / pampers for newborns - I never got leaks with (much cheaper) tesco, and often got leaks when using premium brands.

Agree with the others - get size 1 - when you first see them on your baby the nappies will look HUGE!! However, about a week or so later you will be squeezing them on your LO and thinking how tiddly they are!!

olivo · 17/10/2006 14:05

get a few packs in, whatever you choose! my dd is 7 weeks and still on huggies size 1 - she's nearly 10 and a half lb!!

VanillaMilkshake · 17/10/2006 14:11

I just bought a pack on Pampers newborn this morning they are also 4-11lb, My DD was 8lb so I am hoping that even if this bump is bigger it will still fit in to them. Besides, 1 pack lasts all of a couple of days. If you are really worried get a pack in the next size up too, as you'll use them eventually.

BTW Savers have a bit of a sale on the Pampers newborn.

I am hoping once baby has arrived safe and sound and I know what size etc, to start using washables too.

I'd get the smallest ones. Even for DS (9 lb 10) they were fine. And they are better because the bigger ones are likely to go up over the cord stump which you should be keeping dry. Even if you did have a 12 pounder I reckon the 4-11 would still fit.

i had no idea i was going to give birth to an 11lb+ baby. DP had to go buy size 3 nappies...

griffintribe · 17/10/2006 14:16

Buy the smaller ones. My dd was 8.12lbs and used size 1 for weeks.
Good luck with the pregnancy

dd3 has just moved into size 2 - she's still within the weight limits but size 2 are a better fit
agree with highlander as well
I'm waiting till she's a bit bigger and moving into cloth as well!

IndigoBlue · 17/10/2006 19:17

I bought a pack of huggies and pampers newborn number 1. My baby was about 7 pounds - pampers were a good fit but huggies were gaping at the side.

cece · 17/10/2006 19:43

for dd who was 8 lb I had Pampers newborn.

with DS i bought Pampers size 1 but I was told he was big, and he was over 11lbs. They fitted him fine!

I agree definitely Tescos own brand.
