Do back-to-back babies come later? What gestational week did your back-to-back l.o. show up?

Hi there! I'm 38+3 and even though I've been having lots of contractions, and cervix has been effaced for a while, no sign of our l.o. yet. She's been back-to-back for some time now, and since the dr says it can make delivery slower/harder and increase chances of a c-section if they don't turn, I was wondering if on average labour starts later for back-to-back babies. What's your experience? What week did labour start for you if your DC was back-to-back /face first? Did you deliver after your EDD /need induction?

Went into labour 2 days before due date and ended up with an emcs on my due date, as failed to dilate.

Olivo · 13/01/2015 20:49

My dd was back to back, born at 40+4. I had a sweep on my EDD and started labour at 40+3. Unfortunately, as she was looking up, she got stuck and went into distress so I had an emergency cs.

Hope it all goes well for you.

DS was back to back, he was 3 weeks early.

Mine came at 37+5, but he was also footling breech. I don't know if the breech bit is relevant to him being a bit early.

Sorehead · 13/01/2015 20:53

Waters broke at 37 weeks, DS born 37+2 by EMCS due to failure to dilate; apparently this was because his position wasn't putting the right pressure on my cervix.

Totesnamechanged · 13/01/2015 20:54

Mine was a 34 weeker. Spontaneous rupture of membranes

Justmuddlingalong · 13/01/2015 20:54

1st DS was back to back. Induced at 40+9. 8 hour labour, very backachey but no need for a section. Good luck with delivery and your new DD.

LL0015 · 13/01/2015 20:54

38+4
But I have short menstral cycles which is the stronger indicator of why I delvered early. 24 hour labour failure to progress led to ventouse delivery under epidural. Horrific at time but all well.
2nd DC footling breech went into labour naturally 38+2 so EMCS not the ELCS the consultant insisted I wait to 39+5 for Confused

jimmycrackcornbutidontcare · 13/01/2015 20:56

1st back to back baby 40 plus 14
2nd back to back baby was induced at 40 plus 2.

Squeakyheart · 13/01/2015 20:56

Mine was ten days early with a quick easy labour. Labour felt like really bad wind pain because of where she was sitting.

NancyJones · 13/01/2015 20:57

Mine was 2wks late and a slog. He was my 3rd and I'm not sure I would have managed it with my 1st. But he was also 10lbs. I have a friend whose 1st was back to back and she was worried but she delivered 40+2 without any issues at all.

When I was pg with ds3 and knew he was back to back I did some reading and it said that those women who went into spontaneous labour faired just as well albeit something like ave 1ins longer labour. Those that were induced had higher chance of CS that non back to back inductions that were performed purely for gestational reasons ie 41wks+
Good luck and try not to worry

FortyFacedFuckers · 13/01/2015 20:57

DS was back to back and he was born at 40+2 although labour did start on his due date it was just a very long labour

NancyJones · 13/01/2015 20:58

Sorry, that should read: average of 16 mins longer labour.

LaCerbiatta · 13/01/2015 20:59

40+10 and easy labour.

MintChocAddict · 13/01/2015 21:01

40+12 and fairly lengthy labour.

Dd was back to back. Arrived two days after her due date. Drug free birth, but not by choice. All the pain and contractions, but not dilated. Then went from 0-10 in 25 mins.

40+10, painful but uncomplicated labour, took about 8 hours.

Ihateparties · 13/01/2015 21:03

3x back to back babies, 40+6, edd and 40+10. They all turned in labour and none were long labours - 90m or less from 4cm to birth for all of them. So didn't equal long labour or interventions for me. Smile

softlysoftly · 13/01/2015 21:03

DD1 B2B 1 week late, 3 day labour came naturally eventually but had sn epidural as the back pain was traumatic.

DD2 B2B again but turned during a ridiculously fast labour 1 week early after membranes ruptured naturally.

DD3 B2B AND brow first the little bugger was 1 week late. Fast labour but stuck a while at pushing stage. Though she arrived just as they suggested intervention still brow first and b2b. Delivered on only hypnobirthing and G&A at pushing stage.

So from that I would say it makes no difference to when you have them and while labour can be slower and more painful that's not an absolute rule.

Good luck d

Annarose2014 · 13/01/2015 21:03

41+10. Didn't progress so drip & epidural, then ventouse to slowly turn the baby whilst pushing. But it wasn't traumatic, just a bit of a slog.

Annarose2014 · 13/01/2015 21:05

By the way, labouring on my side was really helpful.

bagofsnakes · 13/01/2015 21:05

DS was back-to-back and came along at 39 weeks and only 8 or 9 hours of labour. Sure the pain was all in my back but it was manageable.
Am now 36.5 with DC2 and midwife told me that s/he is also back-to-back... ah, well.

bambinibop · 13/01/2015 21:09

Dd was back to back but I didn't k ow until midwife mentioned it afterwards! She was born a few hours after the due date so right on time. Only had gas an air but she did get a bit stuck and had to have an episiotomy to get her out. But it was fine
