I am almost certainly going to be having a c sec as I have twins, 1st one breech. Am booked it at a big student hospital, and wondering whether to allow medical students in to see the procedure. Has anyone else allowed students in during their labour, and if so, what was it like?

God alone knows who was about for ds1's crash section, they came running from all over the place but I do know there were med students.
After I had ds2 (elective section) a student midwife came up to me in the corridor and said "Oh!I's you,I watched your section yesterday,I've see your insides!" I was a bit put out by that because nobody asked me.
Don't think there was anybody extra for ds3's elective section.
I had a med student around when I went in for a laparoscopic look-see to investigate me for secondary infertility.Ar the end of his history taking(which more than proved to me that he didn't know one of a fanjo from the other), he asked if he could examine me vaginally under anaesthetic.Funny enough I said no,no way was I having a student elbow deep up there while I was comatose. I was still saying no in the anaesthetic room until they fetched out the scrub nurse and I made both her and the anaesthatist swear on their mothers lives that they wouldn't let him touch me while I was asleep.

I didn't have students at either of my births, and I felt really shy before the first one, about who might see. By the time I was in labour though, I didn't care, I just wanted it over, and would have let anyone in!
When I had the twins there were loads there. DH says that between the ambulance crews, paediatric teams, midwives and consultant, 16 people had a good ogle of my 'privates'.
And all before breakfast!
I wasn't worried at the time, but a couple of days later I found out that about 4 of the SCBU staff had been there, and that was weird, as I had to be there each day, and I had no recollection at all.
I'm not having any more, but if I did, I would tell them to bring on the students, they need to know, and it's the one time you really don't care!

I had one qualified mw and one student at my ds's birth, both were lovely. They have to learn somehow and I was quite proud to help. If no-one was happy to allow them in there would be no midwives!

I had a student mw during the last part of my labour and she was definitely the most helpful out of all the staff who attended to me!! She examined me, as did a student doctor, but couldn't have cared less by then - I think if a cleaner had walked in I'd have probably flashed my doo da at her!!!

Anyway, was rushed in to theatre for an emcs and she came, too - she really reassured me that a cs isn't as bad as you think and that she'd had 2 herself!! In the operating theatre, had her and a student doc there, as wasn't really bothered by that point - was just relieved it was all over!!!

She really looked after me in recovery and told me loads more than the other health professionals what was happening to me - she was great!!

I'd def let a student mw in next time for a future cs!!

I had a nurse who had to do a stint in each department to complete her training. I agreed for her to stay during the (induced) birth of DD1.

As it turned out things happened a bit quicker than anticipated and DH did not get to the hospital in time. The nurse was my birthing partner instead. I will never forget how I dug my nails into her hand as I gripped her so tightly.
She was an excellent birthing partner.

Poor women thought she was there to just watch not take part!

Go for it!
And Good Luck.
