Help! Figured I need to start getting sorted, so have grabbed the boots changing bag, stuck in it:
8 newborn nappies (only sposies I have as we'll be doing cloth from the off if all goes well but thanks Emma's diary for the freebies!)
Pack of water wipes
Travel bottle of baby wash
3 sets of bodysuit, sleep suit, hat, mittens etc
Cardigan
Blanket
Detol wipes
Hand gel
Bum cream
A few muslins
Swaddle wrap

What else for the baby?? I'll do mine another day :-) we live over an hour away from hospital but DP can always go into town or bring from home if we need anything for a longer stay- car seat will be in his car anyway and I'll be bf'ing.

hey! I planned hb for both of mine but unfortunately didn't happen so good idea to have a bag :-)
to cover all eventualities I would say a few more disposable nappies (I would buy a small pack and they can always be there just in case). If bf, lansinoh cream Smile

Vaseline- cover baby's bum and it's easier to clean the meconium off.
More nappies

surely you need
breast pads
maternity pads for the lochia. (the mother of all periods!)
lansinoh if you are planning to breastfeed.

You also to pack some stuff for yourself. Ie. nightie. breastfeeding bras, knickers, clothes to go home in, wash kit, towel

I would forget taking the detol wipes or the hand gel. Hospitals have plenty of hand gel and stuff for cleaning a changing mat. Its better to use cottonwool and water for cleaning baby. In fact many midwives are very anti baby wipes.
You also need a towel to dry off baby after washing him/her with cotton wool and water.

Newborns go through about eight to ten nappies a day. You really need take about 24 nappies with you. If you are transfered into hopital during a homebirth then it is unlikely tha you will be home quickly.

Do not fear... I am packing a separate bag for me :-) on the nappy front I'm not going to buy any more- the hospital I would be transferred to is next to a 24h tesco, and has a hospital shop open 24h- I used cloth exclusively with the last 3 and won't use them unless I have to be transferred, don't see the point in buying chemical laden articles I despise unless in an emergency! If I have to go in I will have to send DP home for the older kids at some point so he can bring in more clothes if need be: am going minimalist for my hopefully unnecessary bag Wink I have Vaseline- will throw it in!

I have a tube of lanisoh somewhere- never used it for it's intended purpose though- titanium nipples Grin that can go in my bag.

Chances of transfer are v.low- 4th baby, all easy simple deliveries, just aware that there's always that slim chance- hence having 'something' sorted even if it's a little basic iyswim!
