private consultant for high risk pregnancy

Hi ladies,

It's very early days but due to my history am thinking of going private..... Please can anyone help recommend a private consultant in London or South East who specialises in high risk C-sections? I'm pregnant with DC3 and very nervous due to a very complicated obstetric history ('lost' DS1 at 22 weeks due to bilateral renal agenesis and had 1.7 Litre PPH, had crash C-section with DD1 and had 3.5 litre PPH).

I was told in my debrief that I need a C-section in future pregnancies as I had a 'J-cut' with DD1 and the risk of uterine rupture for vaginal delivery too high. That coupled with my propensity to bleed (was referred to top haematologist at St Thomas but nothing showed up) is making me nervous.

Am thinking of breaking the bank in order to put myself in the care of a specialist consultant. The NHS have been fab but my consultant who dealt with my previous pregnancies is now on long term sick leave. I'm putting a Plan B in place in case the new consultant I am referred to doesn't inspire me with confidence.

Thanks for reading this far......

Thank you so much for these further replies. I really really appreciate it.

I've now been officially booked into st thomas and so far have been v impressed. I'm seeing the high risk midwives for booking in next week and they're going to refer me to a consultant who specialises in bleeding (possibly dr gabby gray). I've also been booked into see professor Catherine nelson-piercy one of the few obstetric physicians in the country ( there are only 4!) who specialises in maternal health issues. I've also been referred to their geneticist (seeing next week) and have an extra scan booked in at 16 weeks at tommies fetal medicine unit. So far I've been v impressed and actually feel reassured that NHS is the better place for me with my complex background.

Will update you with how I get on...

I had C-section by Dr Dharmintra Pasupathy at St Thomas' (Westminster Maternity Suites) and can highly recommend him. No problems with scar, I stood up 12hrs after the delivery. I was recommended him by a friend who came from abroad to deliver with him. He specializes in fetal medicine.

I wasn't high risk but we preferred to go private. I found him very a graceful and patient Dr, who reassured me when I was anxious, replied pretty quickly to my sms and could accommodate our working times schedules.
My baby was breech, little amniotic fluid, very tiny (couldn't have been induced ) and we agreed for planned CS ... It all went really well, and I said to my husband on the way out from the theatre: 'let's make another!'

Hi there,
Sorry to reply here on this old thread but I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendation for a specialist consultant - my wife has a big fibroid and she's 43, we already had a child a while back and it was quite a difficult delivery. She's pregnat again which is wonderful news. One of the consultants mentioned in this thread helped us afterwards back then when we were going through what went wrong... but I'm afraid she probably moved on from that position since 2013.

Unfortunately the NHS consultants we've talked to seem to lack the experience we need in this area, is there any one we can reach out to ? North London area sort of we can cover Paddington to Enfield/Barnet more or less.

Any names/recommendations are hugely appreciated.
