or is it wee?

How do you know which it is if you are leaking? I'm baffled by the smell too - sometimes I think it's urine other times I'm not so sure.

gosh, i got a same problem. Not sure should i wait or ring midwife tomorrow. Have you figured out which it is?

christinarossetti · 17/10/2014 22:15

There are some special pads that you can get that detect whether the fluid is ambiotic fluid or not, although if it's happening now that information probably isn't that useful.

How pg are you? I don't think a call to the midwife would hurt.

Pikkewyn · 17/10/2014 22:17

Go and have a wee then put a pad in, lie on your back in bed for 30 mins. If there is a gush when you stand up it is more than likely your waters.

MyNameIsButterfly · 18/10/2014 10:05

I'm 29 weeks and everything seems to be completely dry this morning. not sure what to do. I'll find out about these pad might be worth having them around for just in case. Thank you

I'm pretty sure it's urine now. Baby has moved down this week so I think he's sitting on my bladder and the more I think about it, the more it does smell like urine!

I also did the the lying down for 30 mins thing and sat on the toilet while holding my pelvic floor and nothing. I had my 40 week mw appointment on Friday, discussed it with her and we came to the same conclusion (she asked what colour it was too - it's yellow and whether the pad was heavy when I took it off - no)

Have you called your mw yet Butterfly?

I have this problem now too! 39 weeks and when I stood up this morning felt water and a small amount on my knickers. I really don't think its urine. My discharge has always been very gloopy and creamy (always dries white) but can normal discharge become watery and dry clear?

I've put on a dry pair to do the test mentioned above. Do I have to lie on my back to get the effect?

Gunpowder · 19/10/2014 09:13

Last pregnancy my MW told me to do a pelvic floor exercise. If it stops it's wee, if it keeps coming it's waters!

Bellyrub1980 · 19/10/2014 09:18

It's not really leaking out at a fast enough rate for that if you know what I mean. Although I'm lying down at the moment.

If the flow speeds up I'll definitely test that!

gutsrus · 19/10/2014 18:54

I am 39 weeks pregnant and I have the same problem in fact I had to change my nickers and trousers because they were soaking wet iv been to the midwifes and they have checked and they say it is normal to loose discharge at this stage in pregnancy but I don't feel right

unlucky83 · 19/10/2014 19:05

gutrus - for DD1 my 'hindwaters' broke - just had a wee, stood up when a bit trickled out ...so knew it wasn't wee.
Midwives checked and said the membrane was intact I must have weed myself...wouldn't believe me when I said I knew I hadn't - this carried on for a day or so - luckily I knew DD1 was going to appear 2 days laterat the most or I would have been more upset (was actually born a minute before my induction was booked Smile)
(but still traumatic - I needed to stop medication the day before the birth - I stopped it then a day early against their advice!)

Apparently similar had happened to someone at my antenatal group ...I'd be tempted to go back ...have you had the show yet?

Bellyrub1980 · 19/10/2014 23:13

I had no more fluid leak at all! God knows what mine was. I've had a fair amount of discharge everyday in this pregnancy from about 20 weeks. If anything it's been less over the last few days.

If You leaked enough fluid to soak through to your outerwear that's surely unlikely to be discharge right??! My discharge has always been creamy/mucousy but never ever watery.

I've read on Google searches about a ph test the midwives do... Is that just a USA thing?

LittleBearPad · 19/10/2014 23:28

Waters generally smell like hay, they smell sweet and quite different from urine.

Bellyrub1980 · 19/10/2014 23:33

This stuff smelled sweet. It definitely wasn't urine. So as it can't have been fluids I'm guessing it was just a bit of watery discharge :(

Gunpowder · 20/10/2014 07:37

belly if you think it smells sweet I'd give the maternity unit a call. They might want to check it out.
