10% of placenta had blood clots

Hi ladies
I have a 3.5 year old little boy and had a mmc in July this year..

When I had mmc this year we found out that with my pregnancy of 3 year old my placenta had blood clots which explains why he was a tiny 3lb born by emergency c section at 37 weeks..

6 weeks ago I had blood tests to test various different things (not sure what).. I am still waiting results of these and a consultant appointment - does anyone know how long results take to get back? I have chased with doctors and hospital but had no luck..

The main reason for me asking is that I have just found out we are expecting again (4 weeks pregnant) and was wondering if there is anything I should be doing/taking to avoid clots?

Thanks in advance ladies xx
P.s I am in the uk xx

Do contact your clinic if you are pregnant.

I am not a doctor but have APS. Untreated it can cause miscarriage and premature birth due to clots in the placenta. It's quite rare so I am not saying this is what you have BUT if there's a chance the clinic might put you on medication as a precaution.

The good news is on medication I had a 6 lb 14 oz full term dd! So do give them a ring. The meds are heart aspirin and an injected anti coagulant. Good luck. Thanks

Thank you for your reply. I have a docs appointment this week to be referred to midwife. I will again ask about results when I am there.x

I have been on Fragmin for my entire pregnancy to avoid blood clots. I have to inject it daily.

NewEraNewMindset · 13/10/2014 18:47

I thought they recommended baby aspirin for this?

squizita · 13/10/2014 19:23

Depending on severity it's either baby/heart aspirin (75mg or 150mg per day) and for some cases (like mine) heparin (Fragmin or Clexane usually) injected daily. Both have been used extensively for the last 2 decades for this purpose, with high success rates.
The main side effect is bruising round the injection sites.

I think I may be allergic to aspirin so that may be off the list for me.. X

Don't worry if you need the injections instead of aspirin - they really aren't so bad! Smile

I take it the injections will be similar to the ones I had after c-section?
I am terrified of needles but anything for a healthy pregnancy Smile

I think so. Small pre loaded ones.

Well the doctors basically told me to wait for results and a consultant appointment.. Not much help! And midwife will not see me for booking in appointment until I am at least 8 weeks ??

GP told me nothing would be given to me in early pregnancy until I reached 12 week mark..
I am supposed to have a telephone consultation with midwife today so I will try for an earlier booking in appointment with her. I am also waiting for hospital to call me back..

Phone hospital and ask to speak to your consultants secretary. Explain the situation to her and that due to your current circumstances youd like to speak to the consultant urgently. They are usually really nice.
