Chances of another PPH? Can they do anything? B12 too

Hello, I'm in the early weeks of pregnancy and starting to reflect on my previous labour with my first.

With my first I managed to get myself into a bit of a state and I was very anaemic and B12 deficient when going into labour.

What's the likelihood of being B12 deficient this time? Is there a particular blood test I would need to make sure I have? The midwives have so many mums to be to look after I want to make sure I am equipped with information.

If I had a 10lb baby first time round, will it be the same? Can I ask for a growth scan, Or do they only do this when you measure big? Frankly, I was a giant and I don't know why they didn't.

Lastly I had a PPH, which really was the last thing I needed. Crappy days. What's the odds on having another PPH if you have had one before. If they know I had one, is there anything they can do?

Lastly again, what about an ELCs. I know it's not the easy way out but I had an infected episiotomy afterwards and thrombosed haemorrhoids. Not a happy place. Can you have one of those with a history of PPH?

Of course I will ask my midwife all these questions when my booking in appointment comes (all going well), but I wanted to hear the experiences from real people, and possibly some people in the know, so that I am we'll armed with info.

Thank you

Don't know about rest but b12 scans are not run routinely you have to request one.

Hi. I am routinely a bit anaemic and had a massive PPH after DC2, requiring surgery and transfusion. I was pretty worried about it when pregnant with DC3. You will automatically be high-risk, consultant-led because of it, you are three times more likely than the general population to have another PPH, but the background risk is only 5-8% depending what study you read, so maybe a 15-25% chance of a recurrence? I felt better once I knew that, my MW had made it sound like I'd definitely have another. I took Spatone all the way through and my iron was monitored and remained ok. Csection does increase the risk of PPH so you'll have to discuss pros and cons with the consultant. It's v helpful to go through your previous notes and understand what happened, what factors contributed last time and see if they can be avoided. I had precipitate labour, uterine atony and retained placental tissue so the plan was hospital ASAP, iv catheter in, managed third stage and cross matched blood on standby. As it turned out I wasn't there long enough for them to have organised the catheter, but DD was delivered safely, managed 3rd stage, very minimal bleeding.
I would think a large baby last time should trigger a growth scan and a discussion about delivery method - talk to the consultant about it.
Good luck - hope it helps to know another PPH is not a foregone conclusion.
