40 weeks - cervix central but pretty closed

Sitting here like a grumpy duck on my due date. Typically, no sign of baby, who's my first.

I had an appt. for a stretch and sweep earlier; apparently cervix central but quite closed - midfwife could only just get her finger in. I started with period-type cramping pains straight afterwards, but I'd be interested to know from women who've been in my position whether a sweep like this can still be effective?

I'm not over optimistic - I'm booked in for an induction on the 15th - but others' personal experiences would be very welcome!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My cervix went from completely closed (and high posterior) to a baby (as it were) in 14 hours! I was 42 weeks though. My sister had her babies in France where they calculate the due date as 41 weeks. I always had this date in my mind so I didn't feel so 'overdue'.

Meant to add good luck!!!

Bigoldsupermoon · 03/10/2014 19:45

Thank you, Qumquat - will try and keep the faith alive, then! Grin

I can beat qumquat! From completely closed and high posterior and "It'll be at least another couple of days" to baby in 4 hours :o

Bigoldsupermoon · 03/10/2014 20:10

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse That. Is. Amazing.

Couldn't even get close to my cervix for a sweep one day over my due date, DD2 born about 30 hours later.

Never trust a cervix , that's what I say Wink

I was pushing and midwife said cervix still a bit long?!? Grin

hefner · 03/10/2014 20:43

I'm very pleased to hear these stories, I'm 40+4 today and my midwife tried and failed to do a sweep today as my cervix is posterior and completely closed. Maybe there's still hope for me!

weebairn · 03/10/2014 20:57

40 weeks seems quite early to do a sweep to me?

98% of women will naturally labour before 42 weeks - so that will probably be you!

Sympathies though, going overdue is completely shit.

Bigoldsupermoon · 03/10/2014 21:50

Weebairn I think it varies from region to region - I read someone else on another thread saying they'd had their first sweep at 39+0! Here (Manchester), you get your first at 40+0 (if you want it, obviously!), and then weekly thereafter.

Quite heartened by that 98% figure, though - will cling to that!

Oh, and fingers crossed for you Hefner! x

Don't worry too much ... I was less ready than you at 40 weeks. Had a sweep at 41. Still not favourable.
DD born in 4 hours start to finish that night!!

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 07/10/2014 18:06

Another one who was less than 4 hours from unfavourable to baby!

Bigoldsupermoon · 12/10/2014 22:32

Well bugger it all, I'm sitting here at 41+2, had another sweep on Friday and still nothing from Madam down there! Angry

Hoping that my cervix will be inspired by the stories of your heroic, four-hour cervixes (cervices?!) and follow suit! Grin

Come on, cervix! x

Bigoldsupermoon · 12/10/2014 22:32

Oh, but I was 1-2cm dilated on Friday, so there's some progress at least... clings to hope

Ahhhh, why the rush? Baby is currently taking care of own feeds, own sleep and own bum, and is in the perfect baby carrier.
