Induction on Friday & worried

That's it really, I'll be 41+5 and although I'm fed up and really want to meet my baby, I'm sooo worried and nervous. I had a failed sweep last week where my cervix was posterior and closed so I'm also scared nothing has changed.

Any hints & tips?

I need good and bad stories so I don't go in with high/low expectations!

I'm interested to know too as I'll be in the same position on Sunday if nothing happens by then.

I've been told to call the hospital at midday on Sunday but I've no idea what happens when I call. Will I go in that afternoon?

Well I was induced on Sunday just past and terrified , so much so I nearly cancelled it.

Hormone drip/ extra painful/EPIDURALS/forcepts/c-section/

You name it I was thinking the worst

Turns out it was not bad at all, I had 1 pessary put in which was not sore, that was at 11pm, waters went at 5am

Contractuons started around 7am

4 cm at 11am

10cm by 12pm and baby born at 1359

It was not long at all and it was early , 39+5 and my first baby

I got a small tear, and was out of hospital that day and up visiting friends on Tuesday and walking my dogs yesterday, I'm hardly sore at all.

The whole birthing experience was no where near as bad as I thought it was going to be.

So don't worry and that's coming from the ultimate Mrs doon and gloom lol :-)

I was induced at 38 weeks with our 5th baby. I was in tears with the consultant. He was a bully and didn't like me questioning him. Baby had to be born early because of health problems. I was stressed!

I had pessaries. Then my waters were broken. Then the hormone drip. Then it was ramped up to maximum. Everything I dreaded! I had demanded an epidural before I allowed them to break my waters, so I was pain free from 2cm dilated.

It was bliss. Calm, controlled, and no pain. I didn't push once-that drip was powerful! Baby arrived safely and it was such a positive experience. In fact, just as positive as my all natural home birth with baby number 4.

Tips Ask questions. Be fully informed. Don't panic. Good luck!

I think it differs from hospital to hospital & whether it's your first child. I'm currently being induced, first time mum so at my hospital you are given a slow release pessary that is left in place for 24 hours. After that they will see if you are suitable to have your waters broken. If yes they to check with delivery suite before doing it. If no you rest for 6 hours & then have stronger drugs for 6 hours & then they reexamine. I'm nearing the end of the first 24 hours & getting regular contractions, not painful as such but getting increasingly uncomfortable. Hoping that I'll get the go ahead for my waters to be broken soon. I was very anxious about being induced but so far it has been fine, just take lots of things to do to the hospital as there it lots of sitting around waiting.

I've been on the list for induction since Thursday and deferred again today. The labour ward is closed, as are four other local-ish labour wards. They ask you to ring to make sure there is room for you - if not, like me, they do daily monitoring to check baby is coping OK with the wait.

If you are anything like me you'll get super impatient and be upset when they tell you it'll be another day (especially when you have got your head around going in) but the monitoring is reassuring and you can get a good feel about how hectic the wards are. Having a baby nine months after Christmas isn't straightforward it seems!

DS1 induced at 33+5 due to abruption, had waters broken and drip. Was very intense and I did tear but he arrived with no intervention within 4 hours (pushed him out in 10 mins)!
DS2 was induced on due date but only needed waters breaking before contractions started. Also arrived about 4 hours later. Needed ventouse and episiotomy.
Suppose I don't have anything to compare too... but don't be nervous, it'll be fine! Depends on how ready to go you are as to how much they will need to do to help you along.

Slight change of plan - got to hospital to be told baby is breech so I'm going to have a section instead. I don't know which I'd prefer! Think it'll be today so hopefully not much time to panic xx
