Maternity pads?

When can I switch to a lighter liner from maternity pads?

I'm ten days post partum and blood loss has significantly reduced. I have a slight infection after episiotomy and have started antibiotics today. The mat pads make me so hot and uncomfortable which surely is not helping the infection? So any ideas when I can switch to a lighter, definitely non fragranced, panty liner? I should have asked the midwife today :( baby brain and sleep deprivation not helping.

whenever you want really

I just used Always from day one, was fine for me.

Beware that it can stop and start. I wanted the security of mat pads for quite a while in case of unexpected floods.

I've just changed to thinner, but still maternity pads, 11 days after. Walking definitely brought on an increase!

Hmmm. My midwife definitely said don't use always because they have a plastic type coating? I do have a pack of thinner mat ones from boots actually, acorn you've reminded me. Maybe I'll stick with those a little longer just in case and then go to liners. Can't wait for my body to feel vaguely normal again! Feels like both the longest and also quickest ten days of my life.

I actually used tena frm day eight or so, recommended on here. Nice and thin and did the trick

CorporateRockWhore · 17/09/2014 22:27

Yeah, I was told that too, both times, but they were fine for me. Those maternity ones, it was like walking around with a baguette shoved down your pants!

I first changed at about ten days but went back because I needed the cushioning. But whether maternity pads or liners I changed then about hourly to keep everything clean and fresh whilst an infection cleared up.

Honeybear30 · 17/09/2014 22:40

Every hour?! That's commitment. Must have cost a small fortune. Worth it though. I'm really worried they're going to want to re-suture one of mine, especially now with this possible infection. The thought of it turns my stomach. But a 5cm episiotomy and one of the stitches has come loose where I was healing but not quite quick enough.

Boots slim maternity pads are great, I used them from day 1. If you've got some, dig them out.

Flowers. After having DD (second degree tear) I felt like I'd been hit by a bus.

Honeybear30 · 17/09/2014 23:09

Rom thanks rooty. As I was cut I don't know if it is first, second, thurs degree etc. but when every healthcare professional/midwife says 'ooeeewwwhhh' when they examine me or I say 5cm, you know it's bad.

Sad

I found a few drops of lavender oil in a warm bath total heaven for my stitches. Get your DP to pick some up - about £3 for a wee bottle of pure stuff from most chemists.
