hi if you used essential oils in labour, how did you actually use the oils- by burning or on a tissue? was it easy with a tissue? i bought a cheap USB oil burner but the smell isn't very strong. i found a more pricey battery powered one but i don't know if i want to spend £20 on it. would love to know what worked for you.

thanks

add them to a hot bath or use them for massage? in the end, I didn't want anyone touching me but the bath was bliss Grin

At my local hospital/co-located MLU they don't allow you to bring any candles/burners in. BUT they do allow hot water and drops of oil in that give off nice vapours. Smile

My MLU supplies oils. They put them in carrier oil for massage or add them to a bath in a splash of milk. I was at home so they also lobbed some in my birth pool after the baby was delivered.

I gave birth in MLU and mw offered to burn them (they had them there) and then gave me a massage with them while I was in the pool. I practically fell asleep during the massage and my contractions slowed right down to about 10 mins, I was so relaxed!

Thanks. For various reasons I've been advised to avoid the pool, otherwise that would be the perfect solution. I definitely don't want massage I just know it would wind me up lol! Hoping someone can come on with a solution for me!

You can get roller ball ones to put on pulse points on your wrist?

bumpiesonamission · 14/09/2014 14:04

After I was sick alot they gave me peppermint on some cotton wool it was amazingly refreshing

lighteningmcmama · 14/09/2014 15:14

Roller balls sound like a Brilliant idea! I've bought my oils already but I'm sure not you've come to mention it there's a way of making your own, will look that up...hmm actually I seem to recall having some thing that would do the trick, will hunt it out!

No burning at all. No use in common areas (in case it made someone else heave).

I put drops on cloth hankies to sniff (and/or lob on radiator if there was a suitably placed one)

I've sent a message to my mum, she's coming back from holiday in Egypt tomorrow, and I know there you can buy empty roller ball perfume bottles, I hope she's able to pick some up last minute!

Great! I am sure you know this, but if you applying them to the skin do check that your oils are suitably diluted in carrier oil. I hope you find them soothing. Smile

Thank you! I've got some almond oil hanging around so planning on using that. It's a couple of years old but was thinking it should be ok?! I was going to buy a pipette to fill them up but just had a thought to try a medicine syringe from home first :)
