homebirth and mess

This is a bit of a specific question. I have planned a homebirth (baby no. 3) and, with a week to go until due date, have just noticed that I'm supposed to provide my own plastic sheeting to protect floor, bed etc. They recommend 'heavy-duty polythene'. Any idea where I can find such a sheet, what kind of size I might need etc.? Any other preparations for home birth I might have missed??
Thanks!

I used a plastic shower curtain and an old double duvet to kneel on (I have birth kneeling up leaning over the sofa. It really isn't messy though, midwives are great and will keep it to a minimum. Good luck.

Sorry gave birth.

My midwife suggested an old shower curtain or something, in the event dh just nabbed a waterproof liner thing out of the dcs clean bedding. The midwives also bought big pad things so it actually hardly got a mark on it. The whole experience was surprisingly mess free.

I got this for a few pounds, worked wonderfully.
Good luck Grin

Planning a home birth too but I'm not due til early February. Ditto cheapo shower curtains but also 'puppy (dog) training pads' which you can apparently get cheaply in Pound Shop / B&M or equivalent. Apparently much cheaper than Tena pads and can be used as changing mats afterwards - unused ones of course!

I was all set up with floor coverings and managed to kick or push them out of the way in the last bit.
Whilst I was falling in love with dd, at 2am, the 2 wonderful midwives were scrubbing my carpet... Grin

Shower curtains from poundland :)

I used a B & Q value dust sheet, the pads the midwife provided and a couple of dark coloured towels.

Wilkos do plastic dust sheets for a pound or two. We also used the hideous zebra print towelsy MIL gave us. Took great pleasure in binning them afterwards.

We didn't have a plastic sheet, just an old duvet over the sofa. We don't have carpet though, probably would have had plastic sheeting in a carpeted room!

I was astounded by how clean and tidy the midwives left everything, it was like nothing had happened!

shower curtains - ASDA! also few old cloths (sheets towels) it's not actually massively messy and the mw's do bring those absorbant pad things for pushing stage goo and gore.

I had some kids bed mats too, for bed/sofa afterwards.
