I had my lb 2 weeks ago and ended up having a forceps delivery and a 2nd degree tear. Ended up getting an infection. Went to hospital to monday for a check up and she advised that I have a look down there so that if TT here are any changes, I will be able to tell.

How long did it take for you to pluck up the courage to have a look??

IHeartKingThistle · 04/09/2014 15:44

Too early. Got a fright!

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 04/09/2014 15:49

Best not look, ever.

A year I think Grin

Made DP look after a couple of weeks though and he said it looked fine. He might have been strategically lying...

Threads like this one make me glad I had an EMCS Grin

Although my scarring is a bit more obvious I suppose!

joanofarchitrave · 04/09/2014 17:46

I still haven't. DS is 10.

Aren't they intending to have another look themselves?

squizita · 04/09/2014 18:58

I don't think I've ever got a mirror and looked "down there" so I hope when they've stitched me up (currently waiting to drop!) they don't need a comparison. I mean I could tell if it was infected or the stitches unravelled but surely a mw could do that?
Should I have been looking while pregnant to compare!?

GingerScouse · 04/09/2014 19:28

I looked after a few days. Glad I did as my outer stitches from my episiotomy had gone. No infection but very raw and painful. Am now nearly 2 weeks pp but it's going to take a LONG time to be fully healed. Luckily I have an understanding husband Grin

Don't look!

Last time I looked I had bits that I'm not sure have an anatomical name. But they could do a Donald Duck impersonation!

I haven't looked since I was about 18 (now 40), so can't imagine ever wanting to look. I'll advise boyfriend not to look either for some decent amount of time.

amouseinawindmill · 04/09/2014 20:02

I had a third degree tear and didn't look at all. Even the midwife didn't want to, she was all "well I suppose I could look if you want, but..." and then the hospital didn't send me a post-operative follow up appointment until 16 months postpartum, so I assumed as the professionals clearly didn't want to look down there in a hurry, I certainly didn't!

StrawberryMouse · 04/09/2014 20:14

I looked at my "graze" not a fucking graze that's what happens to knees. It was renamed "Frankenfanny" for a while but looked fine pretty soon after.

I swear mine has changed colour since having children though! Although don't have many photos lying round of my prescription vagina to compare it with, funnily enough!

5madthings · 04/09/2014 20:22

With ds1 I looked a few days later... With the next four not for a few months.

Really you do not want to see it in the early days, swollen, bruised and stitches is not a pretty sight and I was terrified it would never be normal again! It did return to normal and I made sure not to terrify myself with the other madthings!

sillymillyb · 04/09/2014 20:33

It honestly took me about 6 months before I was brave enough to look. I had an episiotomy and kelloid forceps.... I have bits sewn back into places where they weren't before that is for sure!

Loveloveloveher · 04/09/2014 20:39

Omg amouse I thought it was just my Doctor that didn't want to look! Thanks that makes me feel better!

It took me months after a third degree tear and forceps to have a look. I promised myself I wouldn't look after hearing the lady opposite me on the ward crying to the midwife that hers was "wrong" and "lopsided". Give it a bit longer for the swelling to go down and it will be less traumatic! Good luck xxx

AndHarry · 04/09/2014 21:28

A couple of years. It is a mess :(

Ds is 10 months, haven't looked yet. It hasn't turned dh off anyway!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 04/09/2014 21:53

I had to look as my stitches tore out, had a haematoma and also an infection like you...

I regretted looking and did actually hysterically cry on the kitchen floor about my "Frankenfanny". Confused Hmm

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 04/09/2014 21:54

Omg, I didn't even read the comment where someone else called it Frankenfanny! Shock :o

lemonpoppyseed · 04/09/2014 21:55

DD is 8 weeks old. I had a small tear as she came out. I haven't looked yet but dr did at 6 weeks, and she said it looked fine. That's good enough for me. Grin

Buffy81 · 04/09/2014 23:29

Think am gonna wait it out a bit longer and when I do pluck up the courage have a stiff drink to go with it. Just can't bring myself to get a mirror or reverse the camera on my phone round to look. I know that the stitches have dissolved and some the swelling has started to go down as its not as swollen near my bum now. At the mo, feeling will have to do when having a bath or shower
