What does 3/5 engaged mean?

I must sound so thick. But I've only just checked my notes from Thursday where I've seen midwife wrote im 3/5 engaged. I didn't notice at the time, but that's probably because I was so excited baby has turned from breech to cephalic :-)
Thanks

Ps I'm 36 weeks today x

I'm this too (38 + 2) the midwife said that she can still feel 3 fifths of his head when she has a poke around so baby has started to engage and 2 fifths baby's head is already down in the pelvis.

She also said once they start to engage, they don't come back up! I want this baby out now! Smile

Fab thanks so much. It's DC2 but DC1 was born at 32 weeks by c section so had none of this.

Does this mean labour is near?

I haven't got a clue sorry not helpful
First baby here, but my best friend was 3/5 engaged a week before she had her DS, I tried to ask my midwife how long she thought it would be but she said she couldn't possibly say Hmm

CumbrianExile · 10/08/2014 17:59

Ooh, mine said 2/5 which guessed meant 2/5ths engaged, but if I am reading the explanation correctly its 3/5ths engaged, might be closer than I thought. 36 and 4 today, but ready for the baby to leave now like u Cupcakes Grin

It means nothing for the onset of labour I am afraid. I was 3/5 from about 34 weeks and still went to +13.Smile

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 10/08/2014 19:47

Cupcakes- my response is why the midwife answered as she did. Extent to which baby is engaged tells her nothing about when the baby will be born. She wasn't being awkward.

Cupcakes123 · 10/08/2014 19:57

@penguins
I know she wasn't being awkward, she's probably sick of being asked the question constantly by waddling, impatient ladies (I know I would be!)
I'm just so ready for this baby to come and say hello now but I do understand that there is nobody on this planet that could actually specifically tell me when he'll be along.
Unless mystic meg does private readings? Smile

As a vetran of three overdue babies, I feel your pain. By no.2 I sent myself nearly demented analysing every sign. By no.3 I perfected a more zen approach and my mental health improved dramatically. Smile Hopefully it will be soon for you. Smile

Cupcakes123 · 10/08/2014 20:04

What's not helping is basically every person I know texting/phoning/face booking me every 5 minutes asking if he's arrived yet

It's driving me up the wall!
I'm sure it'll be worth the wait though Smile

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 10/08/2014 20:06

Ah, see by no. 3 my due date was a state secret. Only Dh and my mum ( our main plan for childcare) knew. Grin

Cupcakes123 · 10/08/2014 20:41

I wish I had been clever enough to lie about the date, oh well, lesson learnt Grin
