Encourage labour to start?

Over the last 10 days or so I keep getting period pains on and off, braxton hicks on and off, looser bowels etc and am hoping this is the slow start of things.
Would bouncing on the ball help things along, or just a waste of time?
I'm 40+2.

It did for me. Did 24 hours of bouncing in the ball, labor started next day. Of course ppl will say I would have gone into labor that day anyway, but for me I felt a connection between the two

If you do it while doing other things, watching something or reading or eating dinner you won't even notice it.

It did for me. 14 hours bouncing whilst watching the Olympics the day before DD arrived.

Hobby2014 · 02/08/2014 16:12

Ok, I'm clearly doing it half arsed.
I've been doing an hour here and there, not as long as you's!
Going to bounce until bed time!

Do I bounce for the whole time, or rock, wiggle, thrust etc inbetween or at the same time as bouncing?
Nearly 2 hours of bouncing now.
No baby.

Friend of mine is a senior midwife & says they are fab for the onset of labour as it encourages baby down the birth canal she also recommends rocking swimming & gentle stair climbing!!

stargirl1701 · 02/08/2014 18:09

I varied. Bouncing, rocking, on all fours, etc.

lighteningmcmama · 02/08/2014 19:33

I just bounced and really tried to put the pressure of the bounce down below.

lighteningmcmama · 02/08/2014 19:34

Hope it works for you, or that something does!

Hobby2014 · 02/08/2014 20:47

Nearly 5 hours on it now.
Got backache, not sure if that's progression or if my back doesn't like the ball!
Had a few niggly pains but not much else. Sad.

How tall are you? I spent the last month on my ball only for the midwife to tell me the day before I was induced that it was too small for my height. Also, ask the midwife to show you what movements she thinks will help.

Hobby2014 · 02/08/2014 20:57

I'm 5ft5"
Final time I see her is tues, for sweep Confused then the next tues is induction. I'll ask her Tuesday, until then I'll have to hope this one is ok. I just want this baby out now!

My contractions started at 2am after the marathon bouncing session.

BillieViper · 02/08/2014 22:49

Did bugger all for me.
Stupid ball.
I had it in the birthing room - my dp was looking after our other two and i didn't want an induction.
So it was my only company should have called it Wilson

ooerrmissus · 02/08/2014 22:52

Made no difference to me, but bloody good fun. I could get across the living room and back.

Onethirdamidwife · 03/08/2014 08:45

You need the right size of ball - thighs and legs should be at 90 degrees, legs wide open, sitting upright or leaning over a dining chair.

Rocking, bouncing any movement with your hips will open up your pelvis though labour won't start until you and baby are ready!!

Good luck x

Hobby2014 · 03/08/2014 13:43

I bounced for 6 hours yesterday and still no baby.
I am bouncing again today. whilst having stern words with my belly
