Losing plug?

LJHH · 29/07/2014 15:11

I am 36 + 4, have been having back ache, low period type pain for the past few days.

This morning had discharge that was streaked with blood and a bit brownish (not loads but enough to notice) sorry if tmi

Stupid question but do I need to do anything? Is it the start of plug coming away?

Any advice appreciated!

Hi I had this we a few weeks before labour and I just called my midwife who said it was quite normal but to go to the hospital to get checked they put monitor thing on me to check baby all ok which she was . You are a bit further along than I was though so could be the plug although mine came away in one go and you couldn't mistake it! I would call your midwife or birth centre and get checked as you'll only worry if you don't! Good luck!

Thank you, that's made me feel better

I thought I wanted him out (sooooo hot and over being pregnant!) but I saw that and had the mother of all panics. My main issue is that we don't know how to use the tommee tippee perfect prep machine, my dp thinks I'm mental for worrying about that.... Smile

You never know it could be the start of it so maybe just call your midwife and get some advice especially if you've had some pains too. Is this your first? I can't imagine being heavily pregnant in this heat you poor thing! I can't help with the tommee tippee machine I'm afraid but once your little one is here you'll forget about what you were worrying about before and it will just fall into place. Hope it all goes well let us know what the midwife says!

Could well be - I lost mine with DC3 at the same stage as you, but it was another week before I went into labour. Maybe call your midwife.

LJHH · 29/07/2014 21:39

Yes, my first so it's all new and scary!
It seems to have stopped now touch wood but will deffo call the midwife if it starts up again. I always feel like I'm wasting their time (I know I'm not and that's what they are there for Confused)

If you are worried then call your mw.
My plug was very very obvious at 37+3 (like a huge blob of very very thick jelly)
Waters went the next day as did baby. In hindsight i had been in early labour from 37 weeks but just thought it was braxton hicks and my low pain threshold!

LJHH · 29/07/2014 21:49

@frizz that's why I'm not too worried, I don't think it's substantial enough to be the plug, maybe it's the start but I'm sure it's still intact.
This pregnancy malarky isn't very glam is it Smile

LJHH that sounds like me. I had thick jelly like discharge with streaks of blood in and a week later my son was here. I told my midwife who told me to go to the pregnancy assessment unit where the baby was monitored. My cervix was checked and as there was a l

Oops!

There was a lot of blood at the neck of my cervix I was kept in overnight. All ok though.

P.S. I have the perfect prep machine and it's nice and easy to use so don't panic about that!

Cupcakes123 · 31/07/2014 10:53

@bananna
Ooohhh how many weeks were you when this happened? I'm hoping that it's the start of things but having slight panic moments about the prospect of the whole labour thing now (not like I actually have any choice in that now though....)
I had a bit more yesterday but nothing since then, maybe I'll just give in and call midwife to check all is ok.

And thanks re perfect prep reassurance! It's made it's way from the wardrobe to the kitchen, just need to get it out of the box now :)

Cupcakes123 · 31/07/2014 12:27

( I name changed by the way, although I'm not sure if me now stating this defeats the object!)

Cupcakes I have been losing my plug for about a week or so now I would say. Well thats accoridng to my MW. First there was a water like substance with white bits in which then turned into like a creamy liquid (like really watery icing). I had to go get checked that ti wasn't my waters and was told I had thrush. Didnt have anything else after that really. On MOnday/Tuesday this week I had some phelgm like discharge which then went to like pale yellow snot. My midwife said it sounded like I was starting to lose my plug and as the lab reports said I didnt have thrush, she wondered if that had been the start of. Anyway, I had a S&S on Monday and since then have had very quick mucus come away each day. Like when you have a really bad sinus type cold and the gunk you get when you blow your nose. I'm currently 38+4 and if this is my plug, which I don't doubt my midwife as she's never been wrong - then I would say it's unmistakeable x

cupcakes I was 34 weeks when this happened. My little man suprised us all by coming early.

Cupcakes123 · 31/07/2014 19:36

Oohhh good luck @mrsnlw, hope all goes well!
I'm calling midwife in the morning, my DP has decided he wants me to go into labour now so that he can get out if work tomorrow, that's nice and supportive of him Hmm
