inductions

Hi I'm being induced at 39 weeks this friday after a really tough pregnancy (due to panic attacks and anxiety) it's my second child my first was an emergency c section at 35 weeks. I've developed a HUGE fear of childbirth and I'm absolutely terrified but still feel being induced is better than a c section due to recovery time. Has anyone else been through this? I'd like to know bad and good experiences. Also is there anything different I should take in my hospital bag?

I've been induced four times and its not that bad. It took a while to get me started - nothing worked til they started me on the drip - but once I got going it was over with very quickly (labours were 4 hours, 1 hour, 35 mins and last one was 1 hour).

If you're worried about the pain ask for an epidural but you might surprise yourself and manage without, I just had gas and air for the last 3.

Fingers crossed your induction goes well and you get your squishy newborn cuddles very soon. Good luck!

Yep, that'll be a contraction Smile I had an app on my phone for timing them to see how far apart they were and how long. My DP was in charge of that which handily gave him something to do.

Contractions are the exact same mechanism as period pains. Youre in early labour for sure. Just keep changing positions, and try not to tire your legs out at this stage. The more leg strength you have left at the end, the more options you'll have for changing positions when the going gets tough.

Do try the epidural though! Honestly there's no medal for suffering and they work really well for most people. All the best. Thinking of you!!

Though you may have given birth already gosh!!!! Hope all is well!

Nope still a no show. Contractions died off when partner came back to visit. Back again now he's left again

Contractions can come and go like that. Try keeping the lights down low if at all possible as this can make a difference apparently. Thanks

Sometimes being alone helps contractions establish themselves. Thinking of you.

They're going to break my waters today. Terrified

Hope things are going ok. Waters breaking should speed things up.

thestamp · 05/08/2014 18:50

it might be sore after they break them, but it will make things go faster and you'll have DC in your arms quicker.

take the epidural, seriously. i was induced because my water broke too early and labour hadn't started within a reasonable space of time; so I started induction with no waters. and yes, it's sore. but that's why epidurals were invented. take advantage of one if you have the opportunity.
