Has anyone used a doula? Was it worth it?

Am weighing up VBAC and elective c/s at the moment. Midwife at last delivery was - well - not very engaged with the process despite my being the only woman in labour in the whole place at the time. Would love to hear about others' experiences of birth supported by a doula. What did they do?

Hi Dolly, sorry to butt in, I'm sure Pupuce will come along soon, but I think it would definitely be worth it. They are a wonderful source of support for you before, during and after the birth, both for you and your dp, no matter what sort of birth you have.

Dolly - we occasionally get asked to support elective sections and we would OF COURSE do it - being a doula is NOT just about vaginal birth or "natural" births for that matter! I would need to know a tad more about your particular situation to give you my 2pence worth. You can CAT me.

Lulu - if you are doing the course in Southport next week then you know who I am as we have e-mailed each other!!! I run NB.

lulumama · 15/09/2006 21:26

I am !!! you know how keen i am then don't you!!

pupuce · 15/09/2006 21:32

Trainees are always very keen, this is why I love my job
But I don't know for sure which one you are of all the Southport trainees....

lulumama · 15/09/2006 21:39

Pupuce- I asked you initially if this was an annual course and offered my house as a venue if that was the case! does that help??

pupuce · 15/09/2006 21:40

... no (i get so many e-mails )... what is one of your initials... first of last name and I'll figure it out

lulumama · 15/09/2006 21:50

pupuce - last name begins with a Y .....

pupuce · 15/09/2006 21:52
