If so, what's it like?

I've had both my DD's there.

It's a bit rough around the edges but when things get going and if you get into any difficulties (which hopefully you won't but I did with both mine) they are absolutely brilliant.

I had my dd at Homerton Hospital and I know a good few people who have had their children at Homerton (all different types of births) and all (including me) have had good experiences.

My labour was pretty straight forward and very fast but the midwives were very effecient and informative. After the labour they washed and dressed dd as per my request and made sure that they got her to my breast as quickly as pos.

There was a private shower room in the labour room so after my tea and toast the MW made me take a shower and offered to be with me and help me shower (I had dp with me helping).

I had dd at 00.27 and left the hospital at 4.30 that day as I and dd were fine.

Was there anything in particular that you wanted to know?

OH BTW they have a security guard that minds the entrance to the mat wards and doesn't let just anyone in.

I thought that all hospitals have all these things going for them until I went to Chase farm to visit a friend who had just given birth.

I managed to get up to the mat ward and be there for nearly an hour before a midwife noticed that I was there with dd and told me that dd shouldn't be there. (I could have been anyone)

I live in Enfield now and am 10wks with no2 and I wish that I could have this one in homerton.

I had my DD there 2 years ago and they were fantastic - I had a water birth. DD arrived at 9.30pm and by 12.30pm I was at home on my sofa with my goregous girl and no stiches!

had first 2 there - 11 years ago and 5 years ago. Labour ward was fantastic and private, staff were brill, first was in labour 24 horus and choices were given - as complications my decisions were respected. In for 4-5 days (hygiene in materbity ward was a bit iffy) second was quicker and I was out in 6 hours, again staff were brill
as preious said there were security staff in place and I was escorted out to the car on oth occaisions by ward staff. family and visitors were respected and ward staff tried to respect different wishs of the mum,s and families as much as possible

good luck

I had ds there 2 years ago.

The night I went in, the labour ward was utterly packed, with people spilling out of the waiting area. I was sent off to the postnatal ward and laboured for about six hours in a side room there, with only occasional visits from the MWs.

I got moved to the labour ward when things weren't progressing, had a drip and epidural and was 'babysat' by an utter moo of a MW who barely said two words to us in the next 7 hours.

It ended in a cs, which was v efficiently done, v reassuring staff.

The postnatal ward was very busy - we were jammed in like sardines and the ward was very hot and noisy and felt pretty chaotic.

On the last day, it was a real effort finding a paediatrian so we could get ds discharged (he had had jaundice) and we were fobbed off for hours by the p/n ward staff.

Overall, it's a very good place to be if things don't go according to plan, but it is pretty impersonal and uncomfortable otherwise.

Im having my lo there (due today might I had!)
So far all my appointments have been good mw's are nice. The only thing I dont like is not having a personal mw for continuity it would be nice to have one from the start through to the end rather than meeting a different one each time.
Although saying that I have plenty of friends and family who have had their lo's there and they wouldnt fault the place. So guess im gonna have to wait and see well hopefully I wont be waiting to long!!

I had my DS there a year ago. My labour and post-natal care was excellent, but my delivery went badly wrong. I suffered a very serious 4th degree tear and now have a colostomy bag. I was cared for very well afterwards, but I struggle to recommend them on the basis that I am taking legal action against the trust for negligence.

I had a private room, the wards were something else I must say.

Having this one at te Portland and hoping for a better experience!
