Giving birth with arse appendages - help!

I'm 36 weeks pregnant and have developed the most godawful hemorrhoids Angry . I just looked in the mirror and TMI there are three of them and they are huge and violently purple.

I had them after having DD but that time they were caused by the pushing and I certainly didn't have them when I went into labour. I'm now terrified of what will happen when I give birth. Will my arse explode??! Shock

I want to avoid coached pushing this time anyway but now I really really really don't want to strain like last time.

DP is out buying Anusol and witch hazel. I've taken lactulose. Is there anything else I can do?

Has anyone gone into labour similarly afflicted??

I'm sure my Saturday nights used to revolve around cocktails and glamorous dresses

Your doctor maybe able to prescribe
A steroid cream which might be more effective than shelf creams

Good luck

Waggamamma · 28/06/2014 20:56

Watching this as I'm 30wks and in the same condition. I got the steroid cream from GP but it has done nothing.

Hideous hideous but many women have this and no your arse won't explode but it will be very painful afterwards! Google all the top tips! (Putting key jelly up my bum before going for a poo was one for me)

Sorry just to clarify I go them after the. Urgh of DD1 and then during the pregnancy of DD2. One thing I did do in the second pregnancy was drink loads of water and that made them a it better. Good luck OP!

Birth of dd1...

MaloryArcher · 28/06/2014 21:59

Thanks all.

I am drinking lots of water so will keep that up.

Have just anusol-ed up so will see if that helps and if not will ask the doctor for something more potent.

I've just read that giving birth in a squatting position will minimise the pressure on the arse area so will try and remember that wee tip in the throes of labour.

It's not the end of the world but I'd really rather not have to worry about the extra pain and discomfort.

At the moment they're so painful I'd almost take a c section if offered Sad .

An ice pack may help reduce the swelling. A midwife gave me a condom ice pack which was good. Fill a condom with water - not too much and wrap with gauze. Pop in the freezer and then use when frozen.

Anusol HC (prescription only) may help too.

missbluebird · 28/06/2014 22:29

The pressures of labour do make them pop out some more unfortunately. I had something put up my bum shortly after the birth as someone recommended it. It was a pain killer and worked wonders for those first 12 hours after and then topical creams were enough. I just said to the midwife I've got piles and heard there is something you can put up my bum to take the pain away and she went and got it. Totally numbed it. She has to put a finger up anyway to check for tearing so popped it in then. Wink

Just to reassure you here, my piles were so bad after DD1 that I actually had an operation (whether I should have bothered or not is another matter as they came back with second pregnancy). The piles were v v bad in early-mid pregnancy with DD2 - huge in fact, and I remember crying on the toilet. I can't remember how bad they were at the end but I did give birth and it was fine. I guarantee you you won't be caring about your piles or strategically determining the labour position when you're at 10 cm! Don't worry. Get some lactulose in (or get the hospital to give you some) after the birth.

tinofbeans · 30/06/2014 06:56

I was in your position with dc2 and absolutely terrified... to the point of requesting csection... however the consultant examined themBlush and reassured me there weren't lots more lurking inside Confused so I had a vaginal delivery (another story) with confidence..

The piles were swollen and sore for about 10 days afterwards, but now at 11 weeks pp they have shrunk right down and are better than they were between pregnancies! Smile

I recommend the lactulose, anusol and gp gave me lidocaine (fantastic stuff - numbs the area in 15 mins). Also take supplies of all the above with you to the hospital otherwise you may have to manage without...Shock

Definitely get on the lactulose now... even taking vast quantities it still took four days to poo afterbirth (again another story) but when it did arrive it was soft and painfree Grin

Anyway, way TMI! Shock Grin Good luck OP. Smile

Germoloide suppositories! I'm exactly the same. Got them from ds1 and they've never gone and now nearly 39 Weeks. I decided I had to get them down before birth and the suppositories have been a God send. They have shrunk.them far more than anusol did and have a local anaesthetic.

Waggamamma · 01/07/2014 15:09

juno do they work on external piles too? My doc told me there was no point in using suppositories as my piles are on the outside.

Juno213 · 01/07/2014 19:56

Yes, mine are on the outside and they still shrunk down better than with cream. I think the anaesthetic is probably the best bit because you do want that inside and out. They also lubricate everything, so stop them getting worse.

Outflewtheweb · 04/07/2014 21:10

I can recommend (and I can't tell you how sorry I am that I know this), that if you pop the buggers back in then stick a suppository up there, they might well stay put long enough for them to shrink in size a bit.

Top tip - lubricate your finger with something before attempting this!

You have my sympathy - I'm suffering too at 37 weeks. It really is the worst pain.
